| | At the beginning of the game, like all games, shows an introduction screen, and like in all games, there is a Pokémon Proffesor introducing you to the Pokémon world, this time its Proffessor Birch. As in [[Pokémon Crystal]] you get to choose whether you want to be a boy or a girl. After choosing your gender you can choose your name. In Ruby and Sapphire you can choose from four names or write your own, but in Emerald there are no premade names. |

| Once you complete the introduction screen you find yourself in the back of a moving truck headed for your new home in [[Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire/Littleroot Town|Littleroot Town]]. You'll soon see a light on the right side of the screen indicating that the back of the truck is open. Step outside and your mom will tell you that you've moved into Littleroot Town. She will take you into your house, where there will be Pokémon movers bringing in the furniture. One your mom has finished talking to you, go upstairs into your room to set the clock. Unlike in many other games of the series the time of day plays only a relatively minor role in the gameplay; for example, it does not generally affect which Pokémon that are likely to spawn.
