The missions in Battle Tactics are segregated into four campaigns:
- Very short (approx. 5-10 minutes)
- Short (approx. 10-20 minutes)
- Medium (approx. 20-40 minutes)
- Long (usually over 40 minutes)
The Very Short missions tend to cover very basic tactics, while the long missions are meant for more experienced players with more complicated tactics and some surprises. One of the criticisms of this expansion has been that the lengths of these missions are very approximate. In some cases Long missions are shorter, while Very Short and Short missions could take much longer.
The missions can be played in any order, so players can focus on the areas they believe they need to work on. The expansion (along with the most recent patch for the original game) unlocks this capability for the game and the previous expansion.
