Map of the ruins

Exit

If you enter from the plains beyond the courtyard outside the Jedi enclave without Bastila in your party, the party selection screen opens and she is automatically added. If you try to remove her:

This character must be a member of your party at this time.

Otherwise, you cannot change party selection or return to Ebon Hawk once inside the ruins. The exit is beyond the north door behind you after you enter, with another door at the south end of the entrance hall.

Investigate Ruins

Beyond the south door of the entrance hall is an ancient droid standing in the middle of a square chamber with doors to the south, east and west. It tries to communicate with you as you enter:

Dialog
KotOR Icon Dialog.png Ancient Droid: [This droid is speaking a language you do not recognize.]
KotOR Icon Dialog.png 1. What language is that? What are you trying to say? KotOR Icon Dialog.png 2. I don't understand you.
KotOR Icon Dialog.png Ancient Droid: [This droid is speaking a language you do not recognize.]
KotOR Icon Dialog.png 1. I still don't understand you. KotOR Icon Dialog.png 2. Bastila, do you have any idea what this droid is saying? KotOR Icon Dialog.png 3. This droid must be broken. KotOR Icon Dialog.png 4. This is pointless. Let's go.
KotOR Icon Bastila.png Bastila: I think the droid is trying to communicate with us by cycling through a variety of languages. Each time it spoke it was using a very different alien dialect. The droid can probably understand us. The only problem is it may not have been programmed with the phonemes of a language we can understand.
KotOR Icon Dialog.png Ancient Droid: I can reproduce any of the languages spoken by the slaves of the Builders.
KotOR Icon Dialog.png 1. Hey! I understood that. KotOR Icon Dialog.png 2. I recognize this language.
KotOR Icon Bastila.png Bastila: I recognize this language as well. It is an archaic variant of the Selkath dialect spoken on Manaan. But why would a droid on Dantooine be programmed to speak ancient Selkath?
KotOR Icon Dialog.png Ancient Droid: Communication was vital to ensure that the slaves constructed this temple according to the wishes of the Builders. But you are not of the slave species. Neither are you of the Builders. You are like the one who came before.
KotOR Icon Bastila.png Bastila: It must be referring to Revan. The Dark Lord and Malak likely encountered this droid when they explored these ruins.
KotOR Icon Dialog.png 1. What are you? Why are you here? KotOR Icon Dialog.png 2. Are you some type of guardian?
KotOR Icon Dialog.png Ancient Droid: I am the Overseer. The Builders programmed me to enforce discipline among the slaves while this monument to the power of the Star Forge was constructed. At project completion all slaves were executed. I was reprogrammed to serve should a Builder return in search of knowledge of the Star Forge.
KotOR Icon Dialog.png 1. How long have you been here?
KotOR Icon Dialog.png Ancient Droid: My chronological circuits have marked over ten full revolutions of this system's outermost planet around the sun since the Builders left.
KotOR Icon Bastila.png Bastila: Ten revolutions would take more than 20,000 years. If this is true then this droid is nearly 5,000 years older than the Republic itself! There must be some mistake.
KotOR Icon Dialog.png Ancient Droid: There is no mistake. The Builders constructed my chronological circuitry using the technology of the Star Forge itself. My calculations are infallible.
KotOR Icon Dialog.png 2. Who are these Builders you keep talking about?
KotOR Icon Dialog.png Ancient Droid: The Builders are the great masters of the galaxy, the conquerors of all worlds, the rulers of the infinite empire and the creators of the Star Forge.
KotOR Icon Bastila.png Bastila: These Builders must have been an extinct people, though it is strange there is no record of their existence. Even the archives at the Jedi Academy make no mention of them. In the years before the Republic the Hutts were a dominant force in the galaxy, but they never constructed an empire. In fact, I know of no species that would fit with this information.
KotOR Icon Dialog.png 1. The droid speaks Selkath. Maybe they were the Builders. KotOR Icon Dialog.png 2. Something must have happened to wipe the Builders out. KotOR Icon Dialog.png 3. Maybe the Builders refers to the Sith.
KotOR Icon Dialog.png Ancient Droid: The Selkath were nothing but slaves and servants of the true masters. Like all the other species, they bowed down before the might of the Builders and the Star Forge. KotOR Icon Dialog.png Ancient Droid: I know nothing of these "Sith", but they are not the Builders. The Builders are… the Builders.
KotOR Icon Dialog.png Ancient Droid: The empire of the Builders is infinite and everlasting. None can stand against their might and the power of the Star Forge.
KotOR Icon Dialog.png 1. Have you seen a Builder recently?
KotOR Icon Dialog.png Ancient Droid: I have been here ever since the completion of this monument. In all this time no Builder has returned to seek information on the Star Forge.
KotOR Icon Dialog.png 3. What is the 'Star Forge'?
KotOR Icon Dialog.png Ancient Droid: The Star Forge is the glory of the Builders, the apex of their infinite empire. It is a machine of invincible might, a tool of unstoppable conquest.
KotOR Icon Dialog.png 1. But what is it? What does it so? KotOR Icon Dialog.png 2. Could you be a little more specific? KotOR Icon Dialog.png 3. You don't really know what it is, do you?
KotOR Icon Dialog.png Ancient Droid: The... The Star Forge is the glory of the Builders, the apex of their infinite empire. It is a machine of invincible might, a tool of unstoppable conquest.
KotOR Icon Bastila.png Bastila: The droid is obviously not programmed with the knowledge we seek. The Star Forge sounds like some type of weapon, perhaps... though, in fact, it could be anything.
KotOR Icon Dialog.png 1. Could it have been a factory or weapons plant? KotOR Icon Dialog.png 2. Maybe it has nothing to do with the Sith.
KotOR Icon Bastila.png Bastila: Maybe... that might explain how the Sith were able to amass a fleet so quickly. But I suspect the Star Forge is more powerful than a mere factory. KotOR Icon Bastila.png Bastila: Our vision was clear. We saw Revan and Malak speaking of the Star Forge. I am certain it is somehow connected to the Sith's sudden rise to power.
KotOR Icon Bastila.png Bastila:
KotOR Icon Dialog.png 1. What is your purpose here again? KotOR Icon Dialog.png 2. Where can we find the Star Forge? KotOR Icon Dialog.png 3. Tell me about Revan and Malak… the ones who came before us.
KotOR Icon Dialog.png Ancient Droid: Now that the slaves are gone, my purpose is to aid those who seek knowledge of the Star Forge... if they are worthy.
KotOR Icon Dialog.png Ancient Droid: The ones who came before you – the ones like you, not Builders but not slaves – sought knowledge of the Star Forge and its origins. They proved themselves worthy. They discovered the secrets of the Star Forge locked beyond the sealed door behind me. But there was another who failed to unlock the secrets and paid the ultimate price.
KotOR Icon Bastila.png Bastila: The droid must be talking about poor Nemo. The Council sent him here to investigate... and it cost him his life.
KotOR Icon Dialog.png 1. Did you kill the Jedi over there?
KotOR Icon Dialog.png Ancient Droid: I am not programmed for combat, I did not harm the one who failed. This temple's own protections will destroy those who seek knowledge of the Star Forge if they are deemed unworthy.
KotOR Icon Dialog.png 2. How can I prove myself worthy? KotOR Icon Dialog.png 3. How can I open the sealed doors behind you?
KotOR Icon Dialog.png Ancient Droid: Enter the proving grounds to the east and west. Within them those who understand the will of the Builders can unlock their secrets and open the doors. But those who fail will be destroyed by the power of the temple itself. More than this, I am not programmed to say.
KotOR Icon Bastila.png Bastila: Revan and Malak unlocked the sealed door and uncovered the secrets of the Star Forge. Now Malak is using the Star Forge to fuel his conquest of the Republic. We have to find out what they uncovered. We have to find a way to unseal these doors to learn more about the Star Forge! The Republic is depending on us.
Journal Entry Added Investigate Ruins
You have encountered an ancient droid in these ruins, which purports to be a remnant of a vast, ancient, galaxy-spanning civilization. What happened to this civilization of 'Builders' and what else lies deeper in the ruins you do not know.

You have also found the fate of the Jedi who had been sent to investigate earlier. It would seem he had been slain...

You will be finding Nemo's remains in the northeast corner:

Item(s) Received Nemo's Remains

If you speak to the ancient droid again at this point, you can still ask some of the previous questions, about itself, the Builders, the Star Forge and how to prove yourself worthy and unseal the doors:

Dialog
KotOR Icon Dialog.png Ancient Droid: You are neither Builder nor slave. If you seek the secrets of the Star Forge you must first prove yourself worthy. Only then will the sealed door behind be opened.
KotOR Icon Dialog.png 1. I want to ask you some questions.
KotOR Icon Dialog.png Ancient Droid: I am here to aid those who seek the knowledge of the Builders. What do you wish to know?
KotOR Icon Dialog.png 1. Who are you again?
KotOR Icon Dialog.png Ancient Droid: I am the Overseer. The Builders programmed me to enforce discipline among the slaves while this monument to the power of the Star Forge was constructed. At project completion all slaves were executed. I was reprogrammed to serve should a Builder return in search of knowledge of the Star Forge.
KotOR Icon Dialog.png 2. What do you know about the Builders? KotOR Icon Dialog.png 3. Tell me about the Star Forge.
KotOR Icon Dialog.png Ancient Droid: The Builders are the great masters of the galaxy, the conquerors of all worlds, the rulers of the infinite empire and the creators of the Star Forge. KotOR Icon Dialog.png Ancient Droid: The Star Forge is the glory of the Builders, the apex of their infinite empire. It is a machine of invincible might, a tool of unstoppable conquest.
KotOR Icon Dialog.png 2. How do I prove myself worthy and unseal the doors?
KotOR Icon Dialog.png Ancient Droid: The chambers on either side contain the proving grounds. Within them, those who understand the will of the Builders can unlock their secrets and open the doors. But those who fail will be destroyed by the security systems of the temple itself.
KotOR Icon Dialog.png Ancient Droid: More than this, I am not programmed to say.
KotOR Icon Dialog.png 3. I'll be going now.
KotOR Icon Dialog.png Ancient Droid: I shall remain here as programmed by the Builders.

If you try to open the south door, Bastila speaks:

KotOR Icon Bastila.png Bastila: If the droid is correct, then we must complete the tasks in the proving grounds to the east and west before these doors will open.

If you try again:

[This door is sealed with an ancient mechanism.]

The south door remains locked, so your only other options are the Template:KotOR to the ruins or to open the west and east doors.

Beyond the west door is a chamber with an ancient terminal at its west end, guarded by a guardian droid.

However, the east chamber has a collapsed beam splitting it in two from north to south. It can only be passed on the south side, where the guardian droid stands, and on the other side is the wreckage of another droid (suggesting Nemo at least put up a fight).

Item(s) Received Wreckage

Both active droids begin by using Template:KotOR, absorbing the first 30 points of energy damage. However, even when shields are down they have Template:KotOR: Resist 15/- vs. Energy, so energy weapons (most Template:~, Template:~, Template:~ and Template:~) are still ineffective.

However, you can return the favor if you or Bastila are character level > 8 and have Improved Template:~, as this trivializes all damage of which the droids are capable: their Template:KotOR and Template:KotOR won't damage at all if a successful Reflex save is made against Template:~ 15, and only a maximum critical hit will result in a single point of energy damage from their ranged attacks (and none at all with Improved Template:KotOR or Zaalbar's Template:KotOR).

Both ancient terminals are accessed in the same way:

Star Map

Beyond the south door is another square chamber with a door in its south wall, beyond which is another, longer, chamber. As you walk into it, you'll see a device standing at its south end which activates as you approach.

Dialog
KotOR Icon Bastila.png Bastila:
KotOR Icon Dialog.png 1. What is it? KotOR Icon Dialog.png 2. What are you talking about? KotOR Icon Dialog.png 3. I don't get it. Is this the Star Forge?
KotOR Icon Bastila.png Bastila: This is a... a map. Some sort of intergalactic navigational chart. Revan and Malak must have used this to lead them to the Star Forge. We could use this map to follow their path and find the Star Forge ourselves. But we must be wary… they may have laid traps or concealed what they found.
KotOR Icon Dialog.png 1. So what is the Forge, exactly? KotOR Icon Dialog.png 2. I still don't understand about the Star Forge. What does it do?
KotOR Icon Bastila.png Bastila: I... I don't know, but Revan and Malak were very interested in finding it. It must be a tool of some type... or maybe a weapon. Perhaps the Council can tell us more. But I think this map might be the key to finding the Star Forge, whatever it is. See this world here? This looks like Korriban, a Sith world. And if that's Korriban, then this is... Kashyyyk... and Tatooine... and here's Manaan. But there are pieces missing: incomplete hyperspace coordinates, corrupted data... and there doesn't seem to be anything indicating where the Star Forge itself might be.
KotOR Icon Dialog.png 1. Perhaps those worlds have more clues. KotOR Icon Dialog.png 2. What good is an incomplete map?
KotOR Icon Bastila.png Bastila: I was thinking that, too. This map can't take us to the Star Forge, but I know that Revan and Malak visited Korriban at least once. Perhaps they discovered something more there. They may have found something on each of the other worlds that completed this map. Maybe if we find all the pieces they will lead us to the Star Forge… and some way to destroy it.
KotOR Icon Carth.png Carth: That sounds like quite a supposition. What if you're wrong?
KotOR Icon Bastila.png Bastila: What if I'm right? We can't ignore this. Finding the Star Forge might very well be the key to defeating the Sith!
KotOR Icon Bastila.png Bastila: We must inform the Council of what we have discovered. They must decide our next course of action, though I suspect our task has only just begun.
Journal Entry Added Investigate Ruins
You have solved the puzzles of the ancient Builder computers and were able to open the doors deeper in the ruins. In the chamber beyond you found an ancient Star Map with several locations marked on it.

Bastila believes that Revan and Malak followed this map and it led them to the 'Star Forge' which somehow affected them. You should return to the Council and tell them of your findings.
