On Kashyyyk, the Ebon Hawk lands at the southwest end of the Czerka landing port. When you first disembark, the Ithorian Janos Wertka approaches for a docking fee which must be paid before you can continue, although it's easy to persuade him to waive it, after which you can follow him. However, you can ignore him and just travel to the Great Walkway at the northeast end of the port, before which you may encounter a messenger for a party member if unlocked by dialog. This is also Zaalbar's home, so adding him to your party is recommended (but not necessary).

Since you can only return to Ebon Hawk and change party selection later in the Village of Rwookrrorro, it's best to explore here first, particularly if completing Chieftain in Need by siding with Freyyr, moving closer to the light side of the Force. The Pazaak player Fodo Medoo is southeast of the Hawk, and to the east you can speak to Eli Gand and Matton Dasol to buy and sell items, and activate and later complete Honest Debt, moving closer to the dark or light side (if siding with Freyyr, return here first). You can also follow Janos Wertka southeast to Janos' Office, where you can speak to him and buy and sell items.

Map of the Czerka landing port

Ebon Hawk[edit | edit source]

As you exit the Ebon Hawk for the fist time, the Ithorian Janos Wertka approaches and speaks to you about a docking fee:

Janos Wertka: Greetings to you. Err... while I am pleased to welcome you to planet G5-623, I do not see your ship on my docking schedule. Janos Wertka: I greet you again. Will you accept the terms of landing at this outpost? We are quite far from any similar services.
Janos Wertka: The Czerka Corporation will see to your needs, of course, but there will be a 100 credit docking fee. In advance, I fear.
Dialog
1. Docking fee? Why do I need to pay that? 2. Could I get some information about the planet? I thought this was Kashyyyk. 3. What services does 100 credits get me? 4. Don't make demands. I'm Name, and I'll land where I wish.
Janos Wertka: This outpost is remote and expensive to maintain. The 100 credits given will ensure that it remains here... for your use, of course. Janos Wertka: That is what the dominant indigenous species calls this world, but maintaining this outpost grants Czerka Corporation naming rights in the trade guides. Janos Wertka: Well, we are limited in many ways, but I doubt you will find even basic facilities anywhere else in this remote sector. Janos Wertka: I respect your... obvious determination, but I can't allow you to remain unless you pay the proper fees. The Czerka Corporation appreciates your cooperation, and hopes this will not devolve into a... violent matter.
Janos Wertka: But, I'm sorry, I really must insist that docking fees be paid before I impart any further services. I must follow proper procedure.
Janos Wertka: Upon collection of the correct fees, I will extend what resources the Czerka Corporation can offer. I'm sure you understand.

If you cannot pay, refuse to do so or threaten bloodshed:

Dialog
3. I can't pay you the 100 credits. 4. I refuse to pay. What will you do about it? 5. It's easily settled. I'll pay with your blood!
Janos Wertka: That is unfortunate. This outpost will have to remain closed to you until you can secure the credits. I am sorry. Good day. Janos Wertka: W-we are not unarmed here! We have many guards and security droids. If we can control Wookiees, we can control you.
Janos Wertka: Czerka Corporation protects its interests. I you won't pay, you won't be granted access to the planet and are free to leave. I will await you here if you change your mind.
[You have no choice but to return to the Ebon Hawk.]

You can simply pay:

2. Very well, I will pay the 100 credit fee. Credits Lost: 100
Janos Wertka: You are welcome on Edean, trade designation G5-623. Czerka Corporation welcomes your business. We should discuss your interests in my office.

Otherwise, it's easy to persuade him to waive the fee using your own skill or the Force:

Dialog
5. Is the price negotiable?
Janos Wertka: Very simply put, no. Operation of these remote outposts is an expensive endeavor.
Easy 1. [Persuade/Lie] I represent wealthy clients. You should let me pass.
Janos Wertka: [Success] *sigh* Normally I wouldn't do this, but I don't feel like arguing. I'll consider a promise of future business payment enough. Janos Wertka: [Failure] No... no I'm... quite certain that you need to pay the fee. It is a mere 100 credits, after all.
link=Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic}}/Force powers#Affect Mind 1. [Force Persuade] I don't think I need to pay the docking fee. link=Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic}}/Force powers#Affect Mind 1. [Force Persuade] I don't need to pay the docking fee. Stand aside!
Janos Wertka: [Success] Perhaps you don't need to pay the docking fee. Any services you need will more than make up for it.
Bastila: *whisper* The Force should not be used for profit and personal gain. As Jedi we should be above such things. Canderous: *whisper* I'm amazed at how many people that works on. The entire galaxy must be filled with weak-minded fools. Juhani: *whisper* You should treat your power with respect, not use the Force on a whim like it is some toy!
Janos Wertka: We will also arrange for translation services, for a nominal fee, of course. You'll be encountering a number of Wookiees while here. Janos Wertka: I see you have a Wookiee with you. Can I assume you understand their language? For a fee, Czerka Corporation can provide a translator for you during your visit.
1. I'm trained in the Force. I'll have no trouble. 2. That will not be necessary. 3. I understand more than you know.
Janos Wertka: I don't have any experience with that. I just know that only the most adaptive people can understand the Wookiee language. Janos Wertka: Very well, though only the most adaptive people seem to comprehend the Wookiee language, such as it is. Janos Wertka: Er... very well. It is no concern of mine. I will simply assume you are one of the rare sort that take to languages easily.
Janos Wertka: Now then, please follow me to our information center. I will answer any further questions there.

Janos goes back down the walkway to the east, turning southeast at the junction and walking into his office. A Czerka patrol guard and a green Twi'lek male Czerka liaison officer patrol the eastern perimeter of the landing platform:

Czerka Patrol Guard
Watch yourself. We don't need anyone agitating the locals.
Take a walk, spacer. You don't look like a big buyer to me.
If you've business with Czerka Corporation, take it to the director's office.
Keep walking. This ain't no holiday port of call.
Czerka Corporation should burn down some trees. Make room for some swoop races.
This assignment is the worst in the galaxy.
You want to arrange a purchase, go talk to the director in his office.
Move along, spacer.

The Czerka liaison officer comments on significant events on other planets resulting from your actions:

Czerka Liaison Officer
It took ten days for news of Taris to reach me. They don't tell us anything.
I guess I should be grateful I'm on Kashyyyk. I could have been posted to Taris.
All those people on Taris dead. First I heard the whole planet was gone, but even just the city is sad.
Have you heard where the Sith might be headed next? I don't even know why they targetted Taris.
Korriban
We get the occasional private trader from Korriban through here, but not recently. I wonder what's up.
Have you been by Korriban recently? The Sith there aren't planning on taking their trouble off-world, are they?
I heard something about trouble with Sith on Korriban, but as long as no cities are being destroyed, they can do what they like.
I don't mind being on a backwater planet when I hear about the trouble places like Korriban get.
Manaan Sector Champion
You look a lot like the winner of the Manaan races. I bet that opens door for you.
I heard some rookie took the big prize at the Manaan swoop races. I guess anyone can win now that Taris is gone.
Is your ship equipped to get the major planetary broadcasts? I heard the Manaan races were pretty good.
Are you... no, there's no way a swoop champion is on Kashyyyk. No way.
Manaan
If we don't get another shipment of kolto, we'll have to start using local herbs for healing. Then we'll hurt *and* stink.
Bring those Selkath here see if they think we need kolto. They'd start shipping it out quick, I bet.
This planet is the worst assignment to have with a kolto shortage coming up.
Czerka is making us put a deposit on standard issue kolto packs. I know the cost has gone up, but come on.

By the northeast edge of the platform are a metal box and a footlocker:

Security Metal Box Unlock 28 (8) Bash Resist 5 Vitality 15
Security Footlocker Unlock 28 (8) Bash Resist 5 Vitality 15
Item(s) Received Metal Box Item(s) Received Footlocker

By the southeast edge of the platform is the Rodian Pazaak player Fodo Medoo. You can ask him about Kashyyyk and off-world rumors, while asking him about the Czerka Corporation can lead to playing Pazaak, and if you don't already have a deck to allow you to play then you can acquire one from him.

Fodo Medoo: What do you want? I don't get a lot of time off from loading cargo, so if you've got something to say, make it quick. Fodo Medoo: What do you want now? I don't want to waste my off time just talking.
Dialog
1. What do you do for the Czerka Corporation?
Fodo Medoo: Oh, I'm not actually considered a real employee. At least, not enough to get one of those uniforms they strut around in. I just load cargo. When a ship comes in I work straight through the day, but mostly I just pass the time playing Pazaak. Want a game?
1. I want to ask about Pazaak
Fodo Medoo: I like playing more than talking about it. What did you want?
1. Where would I get a Pazaak deck? 1. Let's have a game.
2. I have some questions about Kashyyyk?
Fodo Medoo: What? Oh, you mean Edean? I suppose the Wookiees can call their planet whatever they want, but the company pays to name the trade routes. I don't know much about it, though. I stay here and load cargo. You're better off asking the patrol guards or Janos.
3. Heard any off-planet rumors?
Fodo Medoo: I heard something about Taris but I didn't really know anyone from there so I haven't paid attention. Does that sound bad? I just figure that whatever is going on, whoever is in charge will still always need someone to load crates.
4. I have to go. Goodbye.
Fodo Medoo: All right. Goodbye. I have to get back to work anyway.

Pazaak Rules[edit | edit source]

Dialog
Fodo Medoo: Don't have one? I'm surprised. You probably spend a lot of time on trade routes and such, and there's nothing better to kill the time. I might have... yes, here we are, I have a spare deck. I could sell it to you for maybe… 75 credits. It's pretty basic.
2. I don't have that much. Would you go lower?
Fodo Medoo: I don't know if I can do that. It is a spare, but I could use the money to buy better cards for my main deck.
Medium 2. [Persuade] Nobody else is asking. Who else will play you?
Fodo Medoo: [Failure] I don't know about that. I'm sure I'll find someone eventually. I think I'll hang on to it.
1. I'll pay 75 credits. Give me the deck.
Credits Lost: 75

However, Fodo can be persuaded to give you a Pazaak deck without payment:

Medium 2. [Persuade] Nobody else is asking. Who else will play you? link=Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic}}/Force powers#Affect Mind 3. [Force Persuade] You want to give me the deck.
Fodo Medoo: [Success] I suppose that makes sense. I mean, I don't really need it, and how else will I get someone to play me? Fodo Medoo: [Success] I want to give you the deck. Sure I do. I mean, how else am I going to get anyone to play with?
Fodo Medoo: Here you are. You'll want to go over the rules too. I have a pamphlet you can load into your journal, though you probably already have one. You'll want to find some cards to improve that deck. Like I said, it's pretty basic. When you think you're ready, we'll have a game.
Item(s) Received Fodo Medoo
  • Pazaak Deck
This is a standard Pazaak deck, complete with side deck cards.
Dialog
2. Can we play a practice hand?
Fodo Medoo: I guess we could try a hand or two to get you used to how the game works.
1. [Play Pazaak Tutorial]
3. Let's go back to my other questions.
Fodo Medoo: It will be a while before another ship comes in, so go ahead.

Honest Debt[edit | edit source]

The walkway exiting east from the landing platform is walked by another Czerka patrol guard. The Twi'lek hunter Komad appears here if he survived the Desert Hunt on Tatooine, although he leaves once you've spoken to him:

Komad: Greetings again to you, human. It would seem the call of the hunt has brought us both to this troubled world. I have not been here long, but I can already see I will not be as welcome here as I had hoped.
Dialog
1. What are you doing here, Komad? Following me? 2. Why did you leave your home on Tatooine?
Komad: While I'm sure you would prove an interesting hunt, I don't track sentient prey. Two-legged animals do a fine job of killing each other without me. Komad: It was a hard decision, but I felt I had no other choice. I had done a disservice to the apex predator of that world. It was time to go.
Komad: I have come here to seek even greater prey than what we faced on Tatooine, but the climate here is politically cold, and I don't know if I will be allowed to hunt.
1. Whose permission are you looking for?
Komad: An astute question. Czerka Corporation seems in control here, but they don't care if I wander the Shadowlands, so long as I have paid their docking fee. Instead, I hope to gain the trust of the native Wookiee population. I'm not here to just kill the biggest thing I can find; I want to understand how they hunt.
1. What are you doing to gain their trust?
Komad: Very little. I'm sure they have had enough of off-worlders like the Czerka claiming good intentions. I will simply try to stay out of their way. I have heard of an off-worlder that has gained respect by living in the Shadowlands for some years. Perhaps I will attempt the same. It could just be hunter tales, though.
2. What do you know of Kashyyyk?
Komad: I know that I don't know enough. Even from this docking area I can see this world is a true wonder. My desert-dimmed imagination didn't do it justice. It's just a shame to see Czerka Corporation here. They lack an appreciation for the wild nature of this world. I don't like having to deal with them.
1. I'm looking for a Star Map here. Have you heard anything?
Komad: No, but I wasn't listening for such talk. I'm sorry that I can't help you.
2. If not Czerka, who would you prefer to deal with?
Komad: The native leadership of the Wookiees, of course. This is their world, after all. I can't understand why thy have allowed it to be misused.
Zaalbar: Perhaps they had no choice.
Komad: There is always the option to fight, even if there is no option to win. Of course, that is easy for me to say, being an outsider. I would hope they are not complicit in the enslaving of their world, but it is not my place to judge. I have only just arrived.
3. I have to leave. Goodbye.
Komad: Farewell. Perhaps we will meet again. A great hunt on this world would be glorious.

Two Czerka merchants stand by the hand rail on the right, on the south side of the walkway as it curves north:

Czerka Merchant
You're probably here with the new restraining collars. I'm not handling another shipment without them.
Three restraining collars failed on the last shipment. The buyer was not pleased.
You'd think they'd be grateful to leave this barbaric place.
I wasn't aware we were giving tours now. Leave me.
Speak with the director if you need information. I only deal with volume buyers.
I don't have time to deal with you.
I don't deal with individual buyers. I'll have my broker contact your people.
Please leave me. I've contracts to decipher.

Once you've passed them, Zaalbar will speak to you if he's in your party:

Zaalbar: Kashyyyk... my home. I should have prepared you for coming here... but I don't know if I've prepared myself.
Dialog
Zaalbar: Kashyyyk... my home. I should have prepared you for coming here... but I don't know if I've prepared myself.
1. Prepared me? What do you mean? 2. It's a little late for warnings, fur ball.
Zaalbar: I didn't leave Kashyyyk voluntarily. Mission must have told you how I was fleeing slavers... but there was more. Zaalbar: Don't mock me, this is hard. Mission may have told you I was taken from here by slavers... but there is more.
Zaalbar: I am an exile. The slavers on Kashyyyk only took me after I was forced to leave my village home, 20 years ago.
2. I don't care, I'll learn what I need myself. 3. That's enough. I'll learn the rest on my own.
Zaalbar: Then stumble blindly. I won't speak of it again until it is in your face.

Either of these two responses will end the dialog. Otherwise:

1. Why were you forced to leave?
Zaalbar: My brother made deals with the slavers and allowed them to get a foothold. I found out and attacked him. The fight was stopped, but my father did not believe me when I told him about my brother's actions. I was made an exile, disowned by my home and people. I should not be here. They will not accept me back.
1. Why didn't your father believe you?
Zaalbar: When I attacked my brother I was so mad… I used my claws. You don't understand what that means to a Wookiee. Our claws are tools, not weapons. To use them in battle is to become an animal. It is madness without honor. I am forever a madclaw in the eyes of my people. Nothing I say is to be trusted. They were right to cast me out.
2. Time has passed. Things will have changed.
Zaalbar: The slavers are still here... this dock is theirs. I doubt anyone has risen to try and fight. Nothing has changed. I just hope I can prove myself to my people. It will be difficult to make them listen. I just don't know.
1. We'll deal with that if we have to. Let's go.
Zaalbar: I don't have much hope.

Otherwise, another party member may suggest adding him to the party:

Dialog
Mission: Zaalbar should be here. He shouldn't miss this. He needs to know he can come back here.
Carth: The Wookiee was looking pretty agitated back in the ship. You think it's wise to leave him unattended?
Bastila: Perhaps you should reconsider leaving Zaalbar behind. This is, after all, his homeworld.
Juhani: It is always good to know as much as possible about a world, and to have a reliable guide. Perhaps we should get Zaalbar to accompany us.
1. What do you mean? 2. I decide who comes or stays on the ship.
Mission: I can't talk for Big Z, but believe me, he should be with us. He's got... unfinished business here. Mission: I'm not saying that I know better than you, but this is Zaalbar's home. Don't you think he'd know some things? Besides, he's got things here he needs to take care of.
Carth: He looked like there was something he needed to do. Besides, we don't know this planet. He could prove useful. Good or bad, he's got to have some interest in Kashyyyk. I'd rather have him with us. Carth: I agree, but he could prove useful. He'd certainly know the place. And I wouldn't mind keeping an eye on him. Good or bad, he's got to have some interest in Kashyyyk. I'd rather have him with us.
Bastila: We know very little of this planet. I also sense that Zaalbar has much that is unresolved here... it may be beneficial to aid him in this respect. Bastila: Is this about power, then? You would rather make a decision for the sake of making it than make it wisely? I am only suggesting that both we and Zaalbar would benefit from his company while on Kashyyyk. You do want to find the Star Map, don't you?
Juhani: A reliable guide through the intricate complexities of another culture can be invaluable. Juhani: As you will.
Canderous: Hmph. Maybe we should have brought the Wookiee out. This place looks... untamed.
HK-47: Observation: You should have brought the Wookiee Zaalbar, despite the smell. He would have knowledge of this place, master.
1. He has been away a long time. 2. I decide who comes or stays on the ship.
HK-47: Retort: "A long time" is still more frequent than "never," which is how many times the rest of us have been here, master. HK-47: Answer: Agreed, but he is the most familiar with Kashyyyk. That is a simple fact.

An orange Twi'lek male Czerka liaison officer patrols the north of this walkway, before it turns northeast. You'll pass two human males, Matton Dasol on the left, and Eli Gand on the right. If you speak to Matton first:

Matton Dasol: Greetings to you. Something I can get for you?
Eli Gand: Kindly direct your inquiries to me. Matton is merely an indebted employee. His opinions don't amount to much.

Speak to Eli to see his inventory, or learn about Matton's debt:

Dialog
Eli Gand: So, new spacers have come to wild Kashyyyk? Please, look well upon the wares of Eli Gand. I live to serve your needs.
Matton Dasol: Just be sure to pay in cash. The interest on his loans will drain you like a Deluvian fatworm on a Hutt's backside.
Eli Gand: First off, Hutts are ALL backside. Secondly, I don't much like the comparison. No need to get personal. It's just business. Poor fellow, he's been waiting for his friends to return with my money for a standard month now. Ah, but you don't need to hear of this. What can I get you?
1. I'm Name. Let me see what you carry.
2. What do you know of Kashyyyk?
Eli Gand: I don't concern myself with what goes on past this landing port. The Wookiees are *ahem*... very difficult to deal with. No business sense.
Mission: You mean they don't tolerate cheats! Carth: No business sense? You mean they don't like to be cheated out of all their belongings and freedom. Juhani: It is difficult indeed to deal with those you oppress and enslave.
Matton Dasol: He means they don't tolerate cheats.
Eli Gand: No, I mean they don't respect the finer points of a good business plan. Give and take. That is why the Czerka Corporation simply takes.
1. What do you mean by that?
Eli Gand: You'd have to take your questions to Czerka Corporation, and the Wookiees themselves. I keep to myself.
1. I want to go back to my other questions.
Eli Gand: Of course. I am here to serve.
3. Do you always enslave your debtors?
Eli Gand: Enslave? I resent that. Simply fair business. This man's fellows left without settling their debts, so he must make up the difference.
Matton Dasol: I know, I know, it's standard trading rules. I just want to know where my crew went. I was only gone for two days. This isn't like them.
Eli Gand: Yes, very sad that they would abandon you, especially while you were doing me a favor and helping repair one of my freighters.
Mission: Something about this whole situation stinks worse than an overcrowded ronto stable! What kind of friends would just abandon a crew mate?
Eli Gand: You think you know someone, and they turn out to be a cheat. Oh, not like you, Matton. You honor your deals. A word is a bond in trade.
1. Do your debtors have a habit of running off?
Eli Gand: Ah, it happens from time to time. Credits are scarce out here, and not everyone is as honest as Mister Dasol here.
Bastila: An honest man and a good mechanic. Seems like you got a favorable trade, sir. Carth: No, they're not. An honest man is pretty scarce, too, wouldn't you say?
Matton Dasol: You'll get your money. My crew will be back.
Eli Gand: Of course they will. Until then, however, I can make use of you as a mechanic. Very rare to find skills of your kind out here.
2. How much debt buys a man's life?
Eli Gand: Oh, it isn't about the amount. After all, as a skilled mechanic, Matton is worth much more than what is owed. Especially on this remote planet.
Matton Dasol: Oh, you flatter me, Eli. I guess we're best buddies now.
Eli Gand: *ahem* As I was saying, it's a matter of principle. I am nothing if not honest in my dealings, and I demand the same. He will be free to go when his friends turn up and the debt is paid. I honor my deals. Let no one say otherwise.
1. Perhaps I could settle some of his debt?
Matton Dasol: Thanks, but no thanks. No offense, but there's no point in exchanging debt to Eli with debt to you.
Eli Gand: Besides, he is a hard worker. I'd prefer to keep him.
4. I've no business with you. I'll be going.
Eli Gand: See you soon, I hope. Always open.
Journal Entry Added Honest Debt
The merchant Eli Gand is holding Matton Dasol as an indentured servant. Matton's crew apparently left Kashyyyk under cover of night to avoid paying a repair debt to Eli. Standard business practice, it seems.

If you speak to either of them again before finding the broken droid in the Shadowlands below:

Dialog
Matton Dasol: I think you'd better talk to Eli directly. He's the boss... for the time being.
Eli Gand: Hello again. What can I do for you, most valued customer?
Matton Dasol: Valued until you can't pay. Watch your credits.
Eli Gand: You hurt me, Matton. It is the debt of your crew that keeps you here, not me.
1. Let me see what you carry.

Once you have found the broken droid:

Dialog
1. I found a droid in the Shadowlands. Is it yours?
Eli Gand: Where? Ah, you mean the lower forest? I don't pay attention to what these Wookiees call it. A droid you say?
Matton Dasol: What... what kind of droid?
Eli Gand: Now, now, Matton, it's likely just some old service droid lost by the Czerka Corporation. I wouldn't waste my time on it.
1. Could it be worth something?
Eli Gand: I doubt it. I don't even want to look at it. I deal in trade of goods, not garbage.
2. It had been damaged in some sort of ambush.
Matton Dasol: What? I'd really like to see this droid.
Eli Gand: You startle my friend here needlessly. He has work to do and I won't have any more talk of this upsetting him. Understand?
3. It recorded a very suspicious incident.
Matton Dasol: I really want to see this thing. This sounds very odd.
Eli Gand: You get excited over hearsay. There is no droid, no proof of anything. Get back to work.
Journal Entry Added Honest Debt
Matton was interested in the malfunctioning droid in the Shadowlands, but Eli said it was just rumor and put a stop to the conversation. Some sort of salvaged physical evidence would be needed to press the matter further.

However, it's better to return once you've salvaged the droid's head:

Dialog
1. I found this droid head. Can I ask you about it?
Matton Dasol: Droid head? On Kashyyyk? Let me see that!
Eli Gand: It is nothing, I'm certain. Eh... just garbage from the forest floor.
Matton Dasol: Mere rubbish? It's D-A02, the repair droid from my ship! What was this doing in the forest?
1. What do I care? Is there a reward? 2. It recorded an ambush. Someone yells Eli's name.
Matton Dasol: Oh, there will be a reward, all right. Eli! You told me my crew jacked our ship without paying the repair bill! Matton Dasol: Eli, you snake! You said my crew jacked the ship without paying the repair bill!
Eli Gand: Well... that is... eh... it's not how it looks. You see, a good mechanic is hard to find and...
Matton Dasol: And what? I thought I owed you! You tricked them into the Shadowlands and killed them all while I fixed your freighter in orbit!

You can move (much) closer to the light side of the Force by counseling restraint:

1. Don't act rashly, Matton. Eli is through. Violence won't help. Light Side Points Gained: +6
Eli Gand: Now keep your head, Matton. It was just business.

Eli makes his escape. Otherwise, you can move closer to the dark side of the Force by inciting his murder:

2. Kill him, Matton! You know he deserves it! Dark Side Points Gained: -4
Dialog
Zaalbar: You outsiders even cheat each other! No wonder you give no thought to my people!
Eli Gand: Whatever your Wookiee is saying, he's not helping diffuse the situation. This is just a simple business matter.
Matton Dasol: This is business? Maybe in Hutt Space, but not here! Not with me!

Matton draws a blaster and kills him.

Journal Entry Added Honest Debt
Matton was outraged that Eli would be so devious, and has reacted with understandable violence.

In both cases:

Experience Points (XP) Received:
  • 638 Exposed Eli as a thief and a murderer

Speak to Matton again to receive a reward:

Dialog
Matton Dasol: That Thaylian bog-slime. Do you know that I have been here 36 days, slaving to pay a debt in good faith?
1. He won't last long hiding in the Shadowlands. Matton Dasol: All for nothing. He killed my crew... who knows where my ship is. Well, there's your pay, Eli. Blaster fire, and keep the change.
Carth: I have to admit, I'm surprised you let him get away. I don't know if I could have been as forgiving. 3. Did you have to kill him?
HK-47: I will never understand you meatbags. He cheated you and killed your friends, but you didn't terminate him when you had the chance. Matton Dasol: What did you expect I'd do? Besides, he'd have killed me. He couldn't have risked me telling everyone he was a cheat. He'd have no business.
Canderous: If it had been me, Eli would a smoking corpse right now. 3. If it were me, I'd wipe out all memory of him.
Matton Dasol: Well, I could have shot out his legs and let him crawl around for a while, but I consider this far more merciful. Matton Dasol: What do you mean? I don't need to go hunting Eli's family or anything. I've seen justice done.
1. I suppose that closes his little outpost here. 2. What will you do now? 3. His reputation's shot. Someone honest could take over.
Matton Dasol: I suppose it does, though maybe I should keep it up for a while on my own. I've no ship at the moment anyway. Matton Dasol: Well, there's not much for me to do but stay here. I've no ship, so I may as well make a few credits.
Matton Dasol: It'll probably take a while to convince Eli's suppliers that I'm the new boss, but eventually I'll buy my way off this rock.
1. In that case, let's see what's for sale. 3. Fine, fine. Just show me what's for sale.
Matton Dasol: All right then. Actually, I feel I owe you something. Here, take a few credits. If you spend it here, all the better. I think things are looking up.

Otherwise:

2. Sounds like a boring choice to me. Goodbye. 3. And you won't owe anyone a single credit. Good luck. 4. Never mind. Goodbye.
Matton Dasol: Well, that's your opinion, I guess, but I still owe you for helping me. Here, take a few credits with you. Spend them here, if you like. Matton Dasol: That's the idea. Actually, I should toss you a few credits for helping me out. Take them... maybe even spend them here. Matton Dasol: All right then. Here, I should toss you a few credits for helping. I appreciate what you did.
Matton Dasol: Safe flying to you. Hope to see you again.
Journal Entry Added Honest Debt
Matton was grateful that the truth about what happened to his crew was revealed and that Eli was exposed as a thief and a murderer. He'll try to put this treachery behind him.
Credits Received: 500

You can speak to him again to see his inventory:

Matton Dasol: Hello again. Welcome back to Eli Gand's outpost, now under new management. What do you need?
1. Let's see what you have for sale. 2. I don't want anything right now, thanks.

If you encouraged him to execute Eli, it's easy to persuade him using your own skill or the Force to leave the store, receiving an item but moving even closer to the dark side of the Force for doing so:

3. If it were me, I'd wipe out all memory of him. 2. You're still here? I'd never be so forgiving.
Matton Dasol: What do you mean? I don't need to go hunting Eli's family or anything. I've seen justice done.
Easy 1. [Persuade] It's not enough. This store was his life. Let it rot.
Matton Dasol: [Failure] I'd rather move on, you know? I don't want to be mad about this for the rest of my life. I can make this work.

Matton Dasol: [Success] You know, maybe you're right. Why should I bother with this remote hole? This isn't the life I wanted. Matton Dasol: [Success] Working here when I was trapped was hell enough. Staying here now is just foolish. I don't want to be seen as weak.
Matton Dasol: I see your point. I'll leave his shop like his corpse. I'll take what I want, buy passage on a ship, and never look back except to spit.

Matton Dasol: Here, take this. Thanks for reminding me about how he misused my trust. I'll make sure it never happens again. With anyone.
Juhani: You have taken a good and honest man and twisted him into a bitter, hateful creature. You must be so proud of yourself.
Bastila: Feeding this man's hatred is an act of malice and petty evil. The Council would not approve of your actions here, and neither do I.
Journal Entry Added Honest Debt
Matton was grateful that Eli was exposed as a thief and a murderer. Because of your prodding, Matton will make sure that he is never so weak again. This incident has certainly tainted him.
Item(s) Received Matton Dasol Matton Dasol: Thanks for your help, friend. I'm getting off this planet as soon as I can. I'll pay my own way, too. No more debts to anyone. No more trusting anyone, either. I've learned what that gets you.

Inventory[edit | edit source]

Eli Gand: Of course. You are in a hurry. Eli Gand: Yes, maybe I have something of interest. I know your tastes are fine. I recognize you as race champion of Manaan. Eli Gand: Have a look, but if you see kolto, the price is not negotiable. My prices have risen like everywhere else. Eli Gand: Certainly, though my stock may be a little thin. I'm having trouble with a trade contact on Korriban.
Matton Dasol: Right you are.

Janos' Office[edit | edit source]

At the junction beyond Matton and Eli to the east, you can turn southeast into the lobby of Janos Wertka's office. There's a footlocker just inside the entrance, in the southwest corner to the right, while another green Twi'lek male Czerka liaison officer stands outside the office to the left beyond two crates by the northeast wall:

A Czerka scientist standing to the right by the southwest wall can be engaged in dialog, which is more extensive if Zaalbar is in your party, but this isn't necessary:

Czerka Scientist: Welcome to Edean. I trust you will find our facilities pass inspection. Czerka Corporation is very efficient.
Dialog
Zaalbar: You have nothing to be proud of, fool.
Czerka Scientist: I'm sorry, I don't understand Wookieespeak. Shyriiwook, I think it's called? What did the Wookiee say?
1. You work on Kashyyyk and don't understand the language?
Czerka Scientist: Czerka Corporation calls the planet Edean, and no, I don't understand the language. The local Wookiee leader has made it so we don't need to. Wookiees are unable to speak basic, but for the last decade the residents of all local villages have been trained to understand it.
1. What good would that do? 2. Why would a Wookiee leader do that?
Czerka Scientist: It helps ease tensions. They are less hostile towards us if they understand what we say. Czerka Scientist: I understand he works very closely with Czerka Corporation. He wants his people to work well with us. It eases tensions.
Zaalbar: And it makes my people more desirable as slaves.
Czerka Scientist: What did he say? I don't usually have a translator I can ask.
2. He said you have nothing to be proud of working for Czerka. 1. That knowing Basic just makes his people better slaves.
Czerka Scientist: I just work here in the lab. I... I don't have anything to do with the taking of slaves.
1. Why don't you do anything to stop it?
Czerka Scientist: I'm just an employee. You'll have to take your concerns to Janos. He's the voice for Czerka Corporation on this outpost.
2. How convenient. All the benefits with no guilt.
Czerka Scientist: I don't have to justify myself to you. I do good work here. If you're looking for trouble, go somewhere else.
3. Ignore him. I have some questions for you. 3. Whatever you say. I have some questions.
Czerka Scientist: I'm not sure I can answer. Janos is the spokesman for Czerka Corporation at this outpost.
3. Goodbye for now.
Czerka Scientist: Farewell.

If you misinform him of what Zaalbar says and don't tell him to ignore it, the dialog ends and he won't answer your questions:

4. He wants to rip your legs off and beat you with them.
Zaalbar: I didn't say that!
1. See? He's furious. I can barely control him.
Zaalbar: What are you doing? Stop this!
Czerka Scientist: Call him off! I don't have anything to do with what happens on this planet. I'm just a glorified lab technician!
Zaalbar: What was that about? I don't like being used for your amusement.
1. What? Don't you want these fools to fear you? 2. I'm just scaring him. Maybe he'll learn something. 3. Don't question me. Remember your life debt.
Zaalbar: I suppose so... but their presence here is no joke. Zaalbar: I don't have much hope of that. Zaalbar: Grrr... I remember.

Otherwise, if Zaalbar isn't in your party or you return without threatening or insulting him:

Czerka Scientist: Welcome to Edean. I trust you will find our facilities pass inspection. Czerka Corporation is very efficient. Czerka Scientist: Hello again. Czerka Corporation is seeing a lot of return business these days. We are the only company offering Wookiees.
Czerka Scientist: Please, take any inquiries you have to director Janos. I must continue my work.
1. What is your job here?
Czerka Scientist: I'm conducting experiments on various samples of indigenous plant life. There may be untapped pharmaceutical resources here. Of course, that will take some time, and the Wookiees are a more immediate source of income. Please, I must return to my work.
2. I want to ask questions about this planet.
Czerka Scientist: I'm sorry, but director Janos will see to your questions. I must continue my work.
2. You'll talk as long as I say, understand? 2. I'm asking you. Answer my questions, peon!
Czerka Scientist: There's no call for that. I'm just a glorified lab technician. Please, the assignment is difficult enough. Take your concerns to Janos. He's the one that runs things here. Not me.

If you try to speak to him again after threatening or insulting him:

Just leave me alone. I don't want any trouble. The guards are trigger-happy as it is.

Through an archway in the southeast wall is Janos' office, with a desk by its back wall. Janos Werkta patrols between the landing platform and the desk, pausing at either end. You can speak to him at any time to ask about supplies:

Janos Wertka: Greetings again. How can Czerka Corporation serve you during your visit to Edean?
Dialog
1. I need supplies. What is available here?
Janos Wertka: For material goods, I would suggest you speak with the general vendor near the docking area. He keeps his store well-stocked. They charge fair value for mundane goods and armor. If it is weapons you want, you will need to deal with the Czerka representative. That would be me. If you're here to purchase local species, however, you must wait for a licensed Czerka Corporation trader to return from deliveries outside the system.
2. What weapons do you have available?
Janos Wertka: Czerka maintains a well-stocked armory that is open to all our valued customers. You may browse it at your leisure.

You can also ask about the planet or Czerka Corporation (after which you or a party member can threaten or easily persuade him using your own skill or the Force to learn more about their operations), as well as the Star Map. Once again, the dialog is more extensive if Zaalbar is in your party:

Dialog
3. I'd like to ask about the Czerka Corporation.
Janos Wertka: Czerka Corporation has branches in many systems, mostly concerned with weapon production for personal and ship-mounted use. Of course, the many outposts on this world are only concerned with bio-acquisitions.
2. Tell me about the planet. You called it G5-623 before.
Janos Wertka: G5-623 is the numerical designation. The galactic Basic name is "Edean," chosen by corporate ballot among stockholders.
Janos Wertka: At any rate, "Edean" is more pleasing than "Kashyyyk." The language of the dominant indigenous species is quite crude. In fact, a translation droid must usually be placed with them, but their physical strength makes up for the inconvenience to the owner. Janos Wertka: It would seem you are already acquainted with this world, given your choice of traveling companion.
Zaalbar: I have been away for a very long time.
Janos Wertka: You let the beast speak for you? You allow it more liberties than most of our customers.
2. What else is on this planet?
Janos Wertka: An endless array of dangerous creatures, it seems. The great trees harbour any number of dangers below. We've detected odd energy signatures on occasion, but exploration is costly amongst creatures even more difficult than Wookiees.
Carth: Odd energy signatures? Have you ever checked those out?
Janos Wertka: We send expeditions, of course, but they come back with little, if they come back at all.

After asking any of these questions, you can seek clarification:

1. Purchase local species? What do you mean? 1. Bio-acquisitions? What do you mean? 1. Allow it more liberties? What do you mean? 1. To the owner? What do you mean? 1. What did you mean when you referred to a Wookiee's "owner?"
Janos Wertka: Aren't you here to take delivery of a Wookiee thrall? There are few other reasons to visit this barbaric world.

Otherwise, if Zaalbar is in your party:

Zaalbar: He means that they are slavers. They take my people from their homes and sell them to the highest bidder.
Janos Wertka: Your current Wookiee seems displeased with the situation, but I fail to see a concern. You seem to be a satisfied customer.
1. Zaalbar is no slave. He has pledged a life-debt to me.
Janos Wertka: Ah, a very difficult thing to stage. I commend you for it. So much easier than relying on restraining collars.
Zaalbar: Do not demean the life-debt! Do not!
Janos Wertka: I must warn you that you will be blamed for the actions of your Wookiee. Please… call him off.

If you ask him why he shouldn't be killed, a party member may intervene to reveal more:

2. Disgusting slaver! Why shouldn't I kill you! 1. Why? I should let him kill the lot of you!
Janos Wertka: I am merely a servant of the corporation! The Wookiee leadership is in agreement! Harvesting is made as delicate as possible!

Other Jedi will use the Force:

Jolee: [Force Persuade] Hmph. 'Harvesting'. Tell us about this agreement with the Wookiee leadership. Bastila: [Force Persuade] You wish to tell us more about this agreement with the Wookiee leadership. Juhani: [Force Persuade] You wish to tell us more about this agreement with the Wookiee leadership.
Janos Wertka: [Success] I can tell you about the agreement.

Darker members of your party will threaten him:

Canderous: Maybe you should start talking, or I might decide to get a little... restless. HK-47: Commentary: The meatbag speaks without clarity. Detail this agreement or the master will splatter your organs all over the floor!
Janos Wertka: Now, there's no c-call for that. It is a simple matter, really.

Otherwise, you'll have to do it yourself:

Janos Wertka: Please! It is not my decision! It is... an acceptable practice, I assure you!
2. Why do the Wookiees tolerate you doing this? 3. I'd think you would need more firepower to keep order.
Janos Wertka: It is not me, personally. I merely represent Czerka Corporation at this outpost. There are other directors at other stations, of course. Arrangements have been made with the Wookiee leadership. Harvesting is handled as delicately as possible, relatively speaking. Janos Wertka: We do things as humanely as possible. There are other outposts, but the operation is very lean overall. Arrangements have been made with the Wookiee leadership. Harvesting is handled as delicately as possible, relatively speaking.

You can be persuasive:

Easy 1. [Persuade] Tell me about it. I might be more understanding if I know. link=Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic}}/Force powers#Affect Mind 2. [Force Persuade] You want to tell me about these agreements.
Janos Wertka: [Success] If it will ease your temper, I will give specifics. Janos Wertka: [Success] I can tell you about the agreement.

If that fails or you prefer, you can threaten him:

Easy 1. [Persuade] Tell me about it. I might be more understanding if I know.
Janos Wertka: [Failure] It's not good policy to talk about our corporate strategy. I'm sorry, but I can't say any more.
3. Tell me what you mean or I'll bloody your floor!
Zaalbar: RrrrraaAAAARRRR!!!
Janos Wertka: Now, there's no c-call for that. It is a simple matter, really.

He reveals more:

Janos Wertka: We supply arms in exchange for a supply of healthy Wookiees. We are kept profitable and an agreeable leader is kept in power. It keeps the process from becoming a constant firefight.
1. What is this leader's name?
Janos Wertka: I believe his name is Chuundar. I don't deal directly with them, thank goodness. Far too brutish.
Janos Wertka: I don't know why you asked me these questions, but it doesn't matter. Chuundar is unquestioned as leader. Our operation is quite secure. Zaalbar: Grrr.... That was not a name I wanted to hear.
Janos Wertka: It sounds as though your thrall has an opinion about our arrangement with this leader, but it doesn't matter. Chuundar is unquestioned.
1. What about it, Zaalbar? What's the matter?
Zaalbar: This is not something I will talk about. Not yet.
Janos Wertka: Please, is there anything else? I have work to do.

Once you're aware of the slaving operations, you can talk to him about them:

1. I'd like to talk to you about the slaving operations here on Edean.
Janos Wertka: I've a very limited number of things I can say. What do you wish to discuss?
1. I can't allow this to continue.
Janos Wertka: It's not up to you. This planet is not a member of the Republic, and its backward citizens hold no rights. I'm sorry you are offended, but this operation is very humane. Even the Wookiee leadership knows it is more beneficial to work with us.
Juhani: Slavery under any guise should not be tolerated! Carth: Humane, you call it? Beneficial? Sounds like a bunch of excuses, if you ask me.
Bastila: It's not our place to judge, Carth. As he said, it would change nothing anyway.
Carth: Are you saying you approve of this?!
Bastila: Of course not. I would gladly end it, had I the power. However, we are here for other reasons, if you will recall.
Janos Wertka: Besides, even if you did do something drastic here, the Czerka Corporation has other outposts on Edean. It would change nothing.
4. What's to stop me turning my Wookiee loose on you?
Zaalbar: Oh, just say the word!
Janos Wertka: I must warn you that you will be blamed for the actions of your Wookiee. Please... call him off.
2. I've other questions to ask.
Janos Wertka: I will answer is I can.
4. I'm looking for something called a Star Map.
5. Farewell for now. 5. I'm through speaking with you for now.
Janos Wertka: Very good, feel free to inspect our operation here, but I would advise against going too far from the main landing area. The planet is still very much untamed, and we do not send out patrols for lost tourists.

A junior Czerka scientist stands to the left, with a Wookiee lying on the floor inside a cage in the northwest corner:

Junior Czerka Scientist
Our work here could be very important if any effort was put into it.
Local fauna is amazing. If I could isolate why the trees grow so big, it would be worth more than a thousand Wookiee slaves.
I think Czerka is missing an opportunity here. The forest could teach us so much.
The payoff from research is too much of a risk for Czerka to spend much money on it. Slaves are proven commodities.
There is so much to learn about this planet, but they keep us cooped up in here.
I do my job and keep my mouth shut. Maybe I can do some good if I stay out of people's way.

There's a plasteel cylinder in the northeast corner:

Item(s) Received Plasteel Cylinder

Star Map: Kashyyyk[edit | edit source]

Janos Wertka: I'm sorry, but I have no information on that. Are you sure you meant to come here? This world is very primitive. Much of it is still unexplored, even by the locals. The forest gets ever more dangerous the further you descend. The lowest levels, the Shadowlands, are largely unknown.
Journal Entry Added Star Map: Kashyyyk
People seem to know nothing about a possible Star Map on Kashyyyk, though much of the planet is unexplored due to the dangers of the Shadowlands. Firsthand exploration may be the only option.

Great Walkway[edit | edit source]

Turn north at the junction outside Janos' office and the walkway curving to the northeast is patrolled by another Czerka patrol guard. As you walk away from the office, you may encounter a messenger for a party member if unlocked by dialog:

Bastila Carth Jolee Juhani Canderous Mission
Malare Jordo No Xor Jagi Lena

The Czerka guard captain to the left of the gates at the end of the walkway challenges you as you approach:

Czerka Guard Captain: Hold there, spacer. Czerka Corporation doesn't recommend traveling in wild Edean. Katarn attacks are especially bad right now. Wookiee hunters usually keep numbers down, but I think they leave certain areas infested, just hoping a Czerka guard will get killed.
Dialog
1. What do you know about the Wookiees?
Czerka Guard Captain: What's to tell? They're big, powerful, difficult, and worth the most when caged and shipped off this forest-covered rock. Czerka Guard Captain: You're the Wookiee-lover, why don't you tell me about them? I'm sure you're real close friends.
Mission: That's horrible! You wouldn't talk like that if Big Z was here! Bastila: Shipped as slaves to work as soldiers and heavy laborers in Czerka camps, no doubt. Zaalbar: Grraarrr!
Czerka Guard Captain: You're not some anti-slaver, are you? If so, go talk your crud somewhere else. I've seen guards ripped to shreds. They're animals. Czerka Guard Captain: Keep your pet on a leash or you'll be wearing him. I've no lover for these animals. I've seen guards ripped to shreds.
1. So the Wookiees are fighting back?
Czerka Guard Captain: Not anymore. Look, you want to know why the Wookiees are acting compliant, you go ask them. When they rip your head off, we'll fish it out of the Shadowlands and give it a proper burial. How about that?
2. What can you tell me about Czerka Corporation?
Czerka Guard Captain: Go to Janos for company policy. I just man the gate to make sure people like you know you're on your own on the other side. Czerka Guard Captain: I don't talk to Wookiee-lovers. Get rid of your rug and maybe I won't have you shot.

You can threaten him after, or instead of, asking him questions:

3. Don't get in my way. You'll wind up dead. 3. Should I care? You are nothing to me. 1. Maybe I should just let him rip your arms off.
Czerka Guard Captain: I don't take kindly to threats. Don't test me, spacer, we've more than enough firepower to bury you here.

It's easy to persuade him using your own skill or the Force to get back on friendly terms, although it isn't necessary:

Easy 1. [Persuade] I'm just trying to get my bearings. I don't mean any harm.
Czerka Guard Captain: [Failure] What are you doing? Are you making fun of me? Don't push your luck, fool.
Easy 1. [Persuade] I'm just trying to get my bearings. I don't mean any harm. link=Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic}}/Force powers#Affect Mind 2. [Force Persuade] You haven't warned me. I'm a nice person. You like me. 3. I meant nothing by it. Could you answer my questions?
Czerka Guard Captain: [Success] Ah, you ain't so bad. Was there anything else you needed? Czerka Guard Captain: Make it quick. I'm getting tired of you.

Any of the following responses will end the dialog:

4. I'm going past you. I paid the landing fee. 5. That's all. Goodbye. 4. Yes, yes, you're big and tough. I'll leave.
Czerka Guard Captain: I won't stop you, but you leave this area at your own risk. We're here to protect the company, not you. Czerka Guard Captain: Watch yourself out there. There won't be any rescue missions if you go missing. Czerka Guard Captain: That's right you will. Now get moving.

You can speak to him again:

Czerka Guard Captain: Still here? Why do you keep bothering me? All our services are up near the docking area.
1. I have questions for you.
Czerka Guard Captain: Make it quick. I'm no information booth. Talk to Janos in the Czerka office.
2. Never mind. I'm leaving.
Czerka Guard Captain: Fine then, move along.

Regardless of how the dialog ends, you can now open the gates and pass through to the Great Walkway beyond. The Czerka guard on the right can comment:

Czerka Guard
Don't bother me. You're on your own here.
I'm not paid to talk. Take it to the captain or the stiffs in the office.
I just carry a blaster. The captain does the talking.
Talk to the captain, not me.

You'll be engaged in combat immediately upon entering the Great Walkway (and regularly thereafter), and even once it's over you'll be unable to return to Ebon Hawk or change party selection until you return here or reach the Village of Rwookrrorro.
