Upper City North map

Upper City South

You enter from the Upper City South in the southeast corner of the Upper City North, which is also populated by Taris citizens and patrolled by Sith Troopers who may offer comment when spoken to, but cannot be engaged in dialog. A couple of protocol droids can be approached for general information, but no more.

Search for Bastila

Apartments

The exit to the North Apartments is directly opposite the entrance from the Upper City South, to the north (as you'd expect). Whether you have come here directly or after being invited to a party by Sarna or Yun Genda in the Upper City Cantina, this should be your first destination upon arrival in the Upper City North.

After opening the Upper City elevator to access the Lower City, an Ithorian and a taunting boy and girl spawn here. As you approach them, the Ithorian speaks to you, giving you a chance to receive a small amount of experience and move closer to the light side of the Force:

If you don't want to get involved and Mission, Bastila or Carth aren't present, the boy kills the Ithorian. If you or any of those members of your party do get involved, the Ithorian is saved:

They run off if you or one of your party members gets involved. You move closer to the light side of the Force if you personally do so without threatening them:

You can move even closer to the light side of the Force by helping him:

Lower City

Once you have Sith Armor from the North Apartments, travel to the west end of the Upper City North and turn north at the T-junction (being sure to use the south side of the walkway if you wish to avoid the drunk men on the north side). As you turn right around a hairpin bend, at its apex you'll see the elevator leading down to the Lower City in the east wall, with a Sith Guard to the right. If you try to approach it or speak to him:

The elevator remains locked until someone equips Sith Armor and you approach or speak to the Sith guard again:

Sith Armor needs to remain equipped until you've taken the elevator to the Lower City. Aside from allowing access to the Lower City, opening the elevator door also spawns the Ithorian being taunted by a boy and a girl at the entrance to the North Apartments.

Once you've completed the search for Bastila and are escaping Taris, upon returning from the Sith Base to Javyar's Cantina in the Lower City to meet Canderous, you'll need to present the Sith Papers you traded for the Sith Armor with Gadon Thek.

Escaping Taris

Droids by Janice

Droids by Janice is also at the west end of the Upper City North (be sure to use the south side of the walkway from the east end if you wish to avoid the drunk men on the north side). Turn south at the T-junction and open the door labeled Droid Shop to enter. Three incomplete droids are in bays in the south wall, while Janice Nall, a female Twi'lek, stands in a kiosk in the west wall with two utility droids to the left.

There's no need to come here until you've completed the search for Bastila, but buying T3-H8 before T3-M4 gives you a chance to receive some experience, and perhaps receive a few more credits and move closer to the dark side of the Force:

Template:KotOR Dialog

You can also ask her some questions about Taris:

If anyone equips Sith Armor your welcome and subsequent dialog options are somewhat different:

So you cannot buy T3-H8 while anyone is equipping Sith Armor.

Purchasing a Droid

Template:KotOR Journal

Once you've spoken to Canderous Ordo about escaping Taris, you can buy T3-M4:

If you don't have 2000 credits, you may baulk at that sum:

If you do have 2000 credits, you can simply pay the asking price:

Otherwise, you can try to persuade her to reduce the cost:

Persuade 2. [Persuade] That price is outrageous! I’ll give you half.

Template:KotOR Dialog

KotOR Icon Credits.png Credits Lost: 1500

Finally, if you're desperate or willing to move closer to the dark side of the Force, you can threaten her to get T3-M4 for free:

KotOR Icon Dark.png 4. [Persuade] Give me that droid for free, or Davik will close this shop down – permanently!

Now that T3-M4 has joined your party, you can gain access to the Sith base to the north.

You can only buy T3-H8 if you haven't already bought T3-M4.

If you speak to T3-H8 at any point before leaving the shop, you won't be surprised by what happens when you do:

As T3-H8 crosses the threshold of the shop as you leave, it explodes. Naturally, you return to Janice to get a refund, which you can accept outright or after failing to persuade her to give something extra (you should save game if you want to persuade her, because you only get one chance to succeed or fail):

KotOR Icon Credits.png Credits Received: 50

She can be persuaded to give something extra, although you'll move closer to the dark side of the Force if you do so by threatening her:

KotOR Icon Dark.png 2. [Persuade] Maybe I'll just start telling people not to shop here. You'll be ruined!
Dark Side Points Gained: -2

It's hardly worth the time for 25 more credits...

Sith Base

The entrance to the Sith base is to the north of the Upper City elevator, but there's no reason to go there until you're escaping Taris.

A ship takes off from the landing pad to the left of the Sith Base entrance.

If you try to open or use the door, you're informed of the following:

[This security door is sealed and cannot be opened using normal security skills.]
Security Military Base Unlock 100 (80) Bash Resist - Vitality -

Once you've purchased T3-M4 from Janice Nall to the south, the little droid can open it for you. At this point T3-M4 can be removed from your party, although its skill with Computer Use may be useful with the terminal in the reception area just inside the Sith base. Once you've entered you'll be unable to transit back to your hideout or change your party selection without leaving the base, so do so from here if need be.

Drunk men

When traveling between the east and west ends of the Upper City North, you'll notice a multicultural trio of drunk men on the north side of the walkway. You can use the south side of the walkway to avoid them, but approaching them gives you a chance to move closer to the light or dark side of the Force (and in the latter case receive a small number of credits), unless someone is equipping Sith Armor:

They all run off to the east and disappear to the south. Otherwise:

KotOR Icon Light.png 1. [Persuade] Hey, guys, we can all be friends here. Let me buy you a drink.
Light Side Points Gained: +2

Template:KotOR XP

They all wander to the east and stop at the junction. If you speak to them again:

[The drunk waves sheepishly at you, but doesn't speak. He seems to be having trouble standing.]

Otherwise:

KotOR Icon Dark.png 3. If you're trying to pick a fight, you've got one!
Dark Side Points Gained: -2

Any nearby Sith Troopers may fire upon them, and you'll still receive experience if any drunk man is killed as a result (although this won't be recorded in Feedback).

Template:KotOR XP

The remains of one of the drunk men may give you a small number of credits.
