The main feature you get in The Sims 2: FreeTime is the hobby system. Every time you do something, it affects enthusiasm in one of ten hobbies. Each hobby uses a combination of new and existing features. As an example, some new features are:
 
*Restoring an old car to top condition

* Sims now have a wide range of new activity types, from sports to science to arts and crafts. Some new hobbies include basketball, soccer, restoring cars, ballet, and searching for alien life in outer space.
*Greater variety of video games
* Completing hobbies offer lifetime rewards. As Sims master activities they will unlock new aspirations, earn rewards, and uncover secret lots.
*Two new talent badges: Pottery and Sewing
* Once Sims build up their skills, they can sell their arts and crafts or enter them into competitions for dance, food, and video game contests.
*Exploring the heavens with new telescope interactions
* New group activities lets Sims spend time with family and friends. There are new special activities for kids and toddlers.
