It was first announced through flyers in copies of [[The Sims 2: FreeTime]] and [[The Sims 2: Kitchen & Bath Interior Design Stuff]]. It was then subsequently announced on The Sims 2 website. The pack involves sims going out of the suburbs and renting their own apartments. Theres also five social groups that sims can join as well as reputation to garner. Plus there's also a secret world of witchcraft for your sims to become a part off. With all new objects including vending machines and playground equipment, there's so much to do in Apartment Life. So set off, rent your own apartment and hit the town. Also note that a patch is available and can be downloaded from this link. A flyer included in later copies of ''[[The Sims 2: FreeTime]]'' expansion pack announced Apartment Life, promoting new features like Sims' relationships with neighbors inhabiting the same apartment building, interacting with an NPC landlord, a new reputation system, and new activities for publicly accessible lots.

===Neighbourhood===
The new neighbourhood for this expansion is called Belladonna Cove. Some of the families included are the Jeffersons and Bunny Wuzzy and her 4 kids who live in a trailer park. There are also Libraries, Coffee Shops and Grocery stores as well as lots of parks. The main landmark of the neighbourhood is a statue of Bella Goth.
 
===New Interactions===
 
New to this pack is the ability to share gestures with other Sims, including High Five, Earthy Hug, Fake Out, Kiss Kiss Darling and Tough Handshake. Kids can torment each other with hilarious animations and all ages of Sim can now dance the Classic Dance (until one steps on the toes of the other). Sims can play alone with the new Jump Rope (Skipping Rope) and toddlers have a new toddler on toddler interaction of Huddle.
 
===Build Mode===
 
Build mode has a selection of new objects and tools including, Spiral Stairs, Built in wardrobes, ceilings, Ducting, Venting, Heating and Cooling styles of Windows and plenty of new walls, floors and doors!
 
===Witches!===
 
The new creature introduced in this pack is a witch. You can either be a good, neutral or evil witch. Each stage gives them a different outfit. Good witches have white robes, neutral have brown and evil have black. If a Witch becomes atrociously evil they also turn green. Witches can also fly on their broom. Each style of witch also has many objects to interact with including a cauldron. To cast spells witches need ingredients, including  Enchanted Essence of Cur Tails, Magic Dust, Dragon Scales, Eye of Newt, Vipers Essence, Crystallized Moonbeams, Sun Gem's and Essence of Light. These can be created in a cauldron or purchased from NPC Witches when you bump into them, or at the 2 secret Witches Community Lots (one for good and one for evil alignments). The spells are as follows:
 
Good Spells:
Banish Death: Click on a dead Sim or Death himself to bring a Sim back to life.
Aura of Niceness: Makes the world a better place to live.
De-Fuego: Instantly extinguish a fire.
Bugs of Ambiance: Summon butterflies of fireflies, depending on the time of day.
Make Agreeable: Cast this spell of a Sim to make them accept the next five socials.
Waves of Happy: All Sims in the area get a boost to their happiness (great for parties)
You Can Has Cheezburger: Spawn a tray of food, varies depending on the time of day.
 
Neutral Spells:
Make Fit: Instant fitness for the target Sim.
Make Fat: Opposite of Make Fit ;-)
Mighty Cluck of the Beyond: Posses the target Sim to perform chicken moves.
Leave'spolsion: Clear all the leaves from a Lot.
Puddle Evaporator: Clear rain, mess and pee puddles from your Lot.
 
Evil Spells:
Resurrect Zombie: Bring any Sim who's tombstone is on the Lot, back to life as the walking dead.
Bees!: cast a spell on someone to have them chased by bees.
Mist of Plague: Force a Sim to throw up.
Fuego: Cast a fireball to start an object blazing.
 
===New Objects===
Children have a heap of playground objects including a jungle gym, a slide, a round-a-bout and some monkey bars. Though there is a lot of other objects including a murphey bed, a pool table, an open mic stand, the break dancing mat, plasma tv, giant fish tanks, trash chutes, apartment mail boxes, the vibrating love bed (from sims 1) vending machines, witch chairs and lamps and heaps more!
 
===Life skills===
In the new Ep you can learn new life skills from a bookshelf. They are, Fire prevention, Anger management, Lifelong happiness, Physiology and Couple Counseling.
