An initial problem with the game was the NPC redundancy bug. This bug meant that any time a Sim went to a community or hotel lot, new NPCs would be created to fill in already filled roles, slowing down the game. This was not noticeable at first but with all the unnecessary NPCs being created, the game would eventually be unplayable. Eventually a patch was released which fixed this bug among other things.

There was also a lot of controversy surrounding the usage of SecuROM. Since [[The Sims: Pet Stories]], EA had been using SecuROM. The main problems it caused were with installation and launching the game. Users were told not to remove the program.

In The Sims 2 Bon Voyage, there are 3 pre-made vacation destinations including Three Lakes (the mountain woodland), Takemizu Village (the Far East) and Twikkii Island (the beach). Each destination also has its own secret lot which can be found by getting a secret map. There are also cheats that can help you in the game.

You can also create custom destinations, or buy vacation homes. There are many new NPCs including ninjas, pirates, fire dancers, local chefs, various hotel staff, etc. Sims can learn skills such as local dances and local gestures from the locals at vacation destinations.

The new oddity in The Sims 2 Bon Voyage is Bigfoot, he is able to move in with you.
Sims may wear jewelry such as rings, earrings, and necklaces. They also receive the ability to walk to community lots instead of calling a taxi. There are also tours that Sims can go on. Random chance cards can be answered which determine the outcome of the tour. While on tours, Sims can find hidden locations in a vacation destination.

Sims can now take photographs and get a photo album. Sims can now "Dig For Treasure" on Community, Vacation, or Home lots and discover random objects.

History[edit]

The Sims 2: Bon Voyage was first announced on May 24, 2007. The announcement contained three screenshots with more information to come. This expansion pack was promoted with a mock blog on The Sims 2 website which discussed the three vacation destinations and various activities there and included more screenshots.

Since The Sims: Pet Stories, EA had been using SecuROM. The main problems it caused were with installation and launching the game. Users were told not to remove the program.
