This page covers the Elite Monsters and Elite Boss system in monster maps.

Elite Monsters

Elite monsters are monsters which are 2 times the size of the normal monsters. They spawn at a chance per monster killed. This means that you can possibly get an Elite Monster to spawn after a few kills, conversely it is entirely possible not to have it spawn even after many kills.

1 Elite Monster will appear when the spawn is triggered and upon successful killing within 2 minutes, it counts towards the spawning of an Elite Champion/Boss.

During certain events, the elite monster appearance will be increased to appear multiple elite monsters at once. However, it still count as 1 elite monster for the elite champion/boss spawn if all elite monsters are killed within 2 minutes.

Rune of Asteria elite monsters are not counted for elite champion/boss spawn.

Spawn Criteria

  • Attacking character minimum level: Monster Average Level - 20
  • Attacking character maximum level: Monster Average Level + 20
    • Monster Average Level is rounded down. Elite Monsters spawned will be equal to the Monster Average Level reagrdless of their actual level.
  • Spawn interval cooldown (Approximated): 3 minutes, measured from Elite Monster's disappearance time (either death or 2 minute time limit)

Monster Stats

They have a specific skill which they can use. They also come with higher HP and damage as well as rewards. The sword colour above tells the difficulty of the Elite Monster.

For arcane river maps:

  • Yellow sword: 30x HP, 17.5x EXP
  • Orange sword: 50x HP, 26.25x EXP
  • Red sword: 70x HP, 35x EXP

The elite monster gains certain skills based on its prefix on its name.

The Elite Monster drop the following items (at a 100% chance for Elite Monsters over Level 110).

  • Spell Trace
  • Honor Medals (Up till 2)
  • Potions (Based on monster level, maximum potion level is Reindeer Milk and Sunset Dews)
  • Equipments (with Rare to Epic potentials)

At a low chance the Elite Monster may drop precious items.

  • Golden Hammer 50%
  • Cubic Blade
  • Cubic Chaos Blade
  • Unrelenting Flame
  • Forever Unrelenting Flame
  • Master Craftsman Cube (Occult Cube in MSEA)
  • Powerful Rebirth Flame

For higher leveled Elite Monsters above Level 110, it can even drop the following precious items at a low chance.

  • Safety Scroll (Tradable within the account)
  • Clean Slate Scroll 5%
Note that the item list may be inaccurate due to ridiculously low drop rates and that everyone who hit the Elite Monster for 1 damage or higher will receive their own rewards.

Elite Champion

Elite champions are more powerful versions of special monsters. They are an annoyance in general, however failure to kill them does not hinder the elite boss from spawning.

It appears in place of the 5th, 10th and 15th elite monsters, and 20th elite monsters level 139 and below.

It will only stay in the map for 1 minute unlike elite monsters.

Black Crescendo Slime

Player must stand near the slime within its aura to deal full damage, else only 1 damage is dealt. Destroy it and it will grow bigger, 5 times. Each time it is destroyed, a darkness status is inflicted.

Fallen Trent

A fallen trent appears with a shield. Hitting it deals no damage and it will spawn an area of tree branch anywhere in the map. It absorbs monster energy 6 seconds later. If there are no monsters within the branch area, it fails to absorb the energy and the shield weakens. Weaken the shield 2 times to remove the shield completely to be able to deal damage to the trent.

Maximum failure count: 2 times (any more and the trent will probably disappear)

Shadow Butterfly

Every 7 seconds, 2 butterflies will spawn randomly and chase after you. They will have a few seconds of invincibility before they can be damaged.

A total of 15 butterflies will spawn. However, the monster population will be counted fully, so there will be less monsters in the map.

Dark Wolf

A dark wolf spawns randomly. Kill it and it will change its place, as it changes its place it will turn into a dark sphere and takes 5 seconds. It will change its place 4 times in total.

It deals a heavy amount of damage and it can hit very high up from below. Be careful.

Fantastical Flower

A flower will spawn randomly. Killer bees will spawn in regular intervals and chase after the flower. The flower should be protected from the killer bees by eliminating the bees. When the timer on the flower ends, the flower will change its spot. Protect the flower 5 times.

Up to 10 killer bees will spawn. However, the monster population will be counted fully, so there will be less monsters in the map.

Twin Dark Gargoyle

2 dark gargoyles will spawn randomly in the map. If 1 of the gargoyles is damaged too heavily compared to the other, it will go into a rest state and cannot be damaged further, until the other one is damaged sufficiently. Perform it 3 times.

Elite Boss

Elite bosses are bosses which can spawn in monster maps. They are much bigger in size and they represent the Explorer branch jobs.

Spawn Criteria

Average monster level must be 140 and above. Otherwise, an elite champion will spawn instead of an elite boss as the 20th elite monster.

Map Status

When an Elite Monster dies, there will be 2 possible messages that appear.

  • "The dark energy is still here. It's making the place quite grim." (Also known as Grim)
  • "You feel something in the dark energy..." (Also known as Dark)

Generally, on a fresh map, the Grim message will appear 15 times (if elite champions are killed), followed by the Dark message for 4 times before the Elite Boss can spawn. After an Elite Boss is killed or after a server crash/maintenance, the map status is reset.

Elite champions need not be killed to count towards the spawn.

If the monster average level is below 140, the dark status will still appear but an elite champion will appear instead.

Elite Monsters that are spawned using the Rune of Darkness that are killed do not count towards the map spawn.

Elite Boss Fight

When it spawns, there is a 10 minute timer. Nearby maps in the same town area in the same channel will receive an on-screen notification that an Elite Boss has appeared on a specific map. The Elite Bosses have additional skills than the Elite Monsters.

Boss Stats

  • For Arcane River maps: 450x HP
  • 2 possible skills that Elite Monsters can obtain.
  • Unique Skills:
Elite Boss Job Branch Unique Skills
Warrior Cancel Weapon Attack, Raging Blow
Bowman Snipe
Magician Cancel Magic Attack, Genesis, Blizzard, Meteor Shower

Elite Bosses give EXP reward based on its level (for arcane river maps, 160x EXP). It also drops Rare Treasure Chests and initiates Bonus Stage.

Rare Treasure Chests

An Elite Boss can drop up to 2 chests for a person (3 chests in a party of 2 or more), up to 5 chests in total for everyone who is eligible to get a chest (prioritised by damage dealt to the elite boss).

  • 1 Chest for attacking the Boss for 1 damage or higher regardless of level (individual drop)
  • 2 Chests for dealing the most damage or spawning the elite boss (only Characters from 39 levels below the Boss till 29 levels above the Boss can obtain this box, level range is ignored for the person who spawned the boss)
  • 3 Chests can only be obtained when in a party, a person spawns the boss and another person (within -39 to +29) in the same party deals the most damage.

  • Additional Potential Scroll 50% (Chance: 2%)

You can only open up till 30 Boxes per day per account. Chests expire after 10 minutes upon obtaining it.

Bonus Stages

The map transform into a bonus stage, giving additional rewards (though they are mostly useless)

There are 3 possible stages and it gets transformed into 1 of them. After the bonus stage it returns to a normal monster map and monsters will start to regenerate. You can obtain up till 30 bubbles per bonus stage.

The bonus stages can reward:

  • Potion (Conical flask): Reindeer Milk, Sunset Dew, Elixir. In stacks of 1 to 5.
  • Mesos (coin): Sparing amount based on monster level
  • Mesos (sack): More mesos than Meso (coin) bubble
  • EXP (1 arrow up): Sparing amount based on monster level
  • EXP (3 arrow up): More EXP than EXP (1 arrow up) bubble.
  • Weapon (sword): Weapons suited for the monster level range with Rare to Unique potentials. Maximum level: Utgard (Level 140)
  • Armor (shield): Atmors suited for the monster level range with Rare to Unique potentials. Maximum level: Pensalir (Level 140)
Level range to loot the bubbles
  • Maximum level: Lower leveled monster + 30
  • Minimum level: Higher leveled monster - 20
Mimic Boxes

In this stage, you have 22 seconds to eliminate Mimic boxes using normal attacks. Every attack, it deals 777 damage to the chests and the chests can withstand 10 hits (7,770 HP). Every time it gets hit, it will throw up bubbles. Bubbles are individual so you have to hit the chests on your own to obtain your items. Use pick up key to loot the bubbles.

Note

For multi-line normal attacks, the mimic boxes will receive the relative additional damage but it will only throw up rewards equivalent to 1 attack. This is to a disadvantage to Demon Slayers, Dual Blades, Transformed Kaisers, Arans, and Cadenas, since their normal attacks deal at least 2 lines (so the mimic boxes receive more than 2 times the damage and so they die 2 or more times faster while giving inversely less rewards)

Flying Mimics

You have 22 seconds to touch as many bubbles as you can as mimics fly around the map and disperse bubbles. Touch the bubble using your character to loot. You may use mobility skills.

Free Fall

You have 22 seconds to touch as many bubbles as you can as bubbles fall freely from the sky. Touch the bubble using your character to loot. You may use mobility skills.
