Use the "Search" section in the same tab to look for farms containing the monster as detected by the crawler used.
Monster Life is a farm system in MapleStory where players can adopt, take care and play with monsters which may be harmful outside but are relatively harmless inside. Monsters will also provide some stat boosts that will be applied throughout the account, across worlds too. Only 1 monster farm can exist per account and it is shared across all worlds.
Enter the farm for the first time to set a farm name. Farm name and farm level will be displayed at the top left of character information by double clicking on the character in the map.
General Information[edit | edit source]
This section describes the UI of Monster Life.
- Top Right
- Beauty (clover): Clover points scored by your farm, determined by the sum of beauty points of decoratives including road bonuses and houses.
- Gem: Premium currency, purchased from cash shop, or obtain 1 Gem per 10 completed repeatable quests, or from the daily gift box if lucky, or event rewards. Used to purchase items in the shop or extend rank S regular type monsters or special monsters of C to S rank.
- Waru (coin with letter W in the middle): Coins for the farm. It cannot be bought directly, but can be earned mostly from houses and certain activities. It is used to purchase items in the shop, combine monsters, extend regular type monsters of rank C to A+ or traded for Monster Life Coins to be used in Maple World (2,000 waru for 1 coin). Maximum waru: 99,999,999
- Monster Count: Shows your monster count and the maximum allowed. Mouse over to see the full list of stats applied.
- Chat: Maple World chat for megaphones, buddy, guild and alliance. The logs are much more limited compared to Maple World's chatbox, but it is possible to also send messages to buddy chat, guild chat or alliance chat. (There is no "send" button, so pressing the "enter" button on your keyboard will do)
- Top left
- Profile Picture: Upload a 100px by 100px picture as your farm profile picture. This can be viewed by anyone, including Maple World players if they view your character information. Pictures that go against community guidelines may incur punishments
if they care, from a picture reset to a suspension of account. - Farm Name: This is set when you first entered Monster Life. Choose carefully, as it costs 8 gems to change the farm name afterwards, and only 1 change can be done daily. Names that go against community guidelines may incur punishments
if they care, from a name change to a suspension of account. - Farm Level and EXP: Shows your farm level and EXP bar. Mouse over the EXP bar to view the current farm EXP and EXP needed to level up the farm.
- Bottom left
- My Monsters: Shows the list of monsters in your farm. It can show 7 monsters at a time, and scrolling with the mousewheel by 1 click or clicking the arrow would scroll to the left by 1 monster. Mouse over the monster to view its stats (monster level and exp, tale care count, play count, waru obtained from release, expiry, stat)
- Inventory: It is split into 3 categories: Structures, Consumables and Roads.
- Structures: Houses and decoratives
- Consumables: Boxes, Gem/Waru Tickets
- Roads: 3 different style of roads that are unlimited.
- Bottom Right
- Ranking (Trophy): Shows the top 3 farms in previous day's visitor count, previous day's play count by visitors, previous day's combination count by visitors, beauty points and achievement points
- Buddy List (person with heart): Personal buddy list. Adding a farm in your buddy list does not require consent as it only appears at your list and not the other farm's buddy list. Up to 100 farms can be added. There are 3 additional features too
- Featured Farms: Shows 9 other farms near your farm level, and 1 NPC farm.
- "Go to": Enter the farm name and go to that farm
- Blacklist: It is unsure what it does actually because it does not block the target from entering your farm or performing any operations at your farm, probably to block messages and that's about it.
- Julian's House (Scroll): Go to Julian's House
- Shop: Opens the shop in Julian's House
- Monster Book: Opens the monster book in Julian's House
- Exit Monster Life (door): Exit Monster Life and go back to Maple World
Operations Shortcuts[edit | edit source]
To make life easier while using Monster Life, the following shortcuts can be used.
- Quickly collect waru from buildings: Hold down enter and click each building.
- Road tiling: Left click and hold it while moving your mouse. (For removing, switch to renovation mode and do the same)
- Buildings and decorations can be placed above roads directly, but the road at that space will be removed.
- Remove buildings and decorations quickly: In renovation mode, click the building/decoration to be removed and right click (placing it in an available space is not needed).
- Open Boxes/Tickets quickly: Press and hold down "Enter", then spam left click while moving your mouse.
- Take care of all monsters at once: Pay 1,000 for automatic take care.
- You can also dismiss a monster from a combination immediately without going back to your farm (if you are looking for a specific monster).
Farm Level[edit | edit source]
As you perform quests and taking care of monsters, you gain farm EXP, and it increases your farm level if gained sufficiently. Excess farm EXP is erased if farm level increases. To reduce wastage, only level up the farm using taking care, and performing quests when the farm EXP is low enough to not level up after the quest is finished.
With a higher farm level, more monsters can be placed in the farm.

Monster Capacity[edit | edit source]
Depending on farm level, your farm can hold 2~18 monsters at any time. You can use expansion tickets to increase the limit up to 10 more by using Gems (8 gems per 1 slot for the 1st 5 slots, 15 gems per 1 slot for the next 5 slots)
- For more details on monster slots, see #Farm Level.
There is also a monster storage to store 1 monster inside, and you can expand up to 9 more slots using 9 gems per 1 slot (total 10 slots). Monsters inside storage will not provide stats.
Obtaining Monsters[edit | edit source]
As the farm have no monsters at the beginning, the first life always come from monster boxes. The shop sells C Grade Monster Box for 1,000 waru each, and it can be opened for a random regular C grade monster.
For tutorial, a C grade monster box and a genesis house will be provided for free to start the farm. Genesis house is placed in your farm to earn waru (like other houses in the shop), and the C grade monster box is used to create your first monster.
Otherwise, monsters can be obtained mostly from combination, available if your monster is at least level 3. Special monsters can be obtained from either special monster boxes or special formula combination depending on the monster itself.
- For more details on special monsters, see #Special Monster Bonuses.
Monster Maintenance[edit | edit source]
Monsters have an expiry of 30 days 60 days. Once the expiry is reached, the monster will still remain in the farm but no further actions can be taken towards the monster except extend life (non-SS rank only) or dismiss to get waru based on monster level.
As such, a new monster would have to be born to maintain the monster type and rank.
Take Care[edit | edit source]
Available 1 time daily, this provides a small amount of waru based on new monster level (9~180), a huge amount of monster EXP and 30 farm EXP. A high monster level will slightly increase the chance of a higher rank appearing as a result of combinations, but it does not apply to the success rate of special formula combinations.
Waru gained per take care is 3 times the new monster level after taking care, with an additional 15 waru per 5 monster levels rounded down.

Dismiss[edit | edit source]
Remove the monster from your farm and let it out into Maple World in a random world, channel and map. In that map, players can kill the monster to receive an invitation in Use inventory to visit your farm to obtain a considerable amount of waru based on rank. Invitation will be removed if unused after logging off the game. You will get a small amount of waru if this happens, given upon entering your farm. Monsters can no longer be found in the wild in Maple World.
For dismissing a Level 4 and above monster, you will also instantly get some warus. warus is given, with a minimum of Level 4. In addition:
- +300 waru if the monster is level 10~19
- +1,200 waru if the monster is level 20~29
- +2,700 waru if the monster is level 30

Extend Life[edit | edit source]
Option is available only when expiry is reached and the monster is not SS rank. Consume waru or gems to extend by 14 days measured from time of extension, depending on type and rank.
- Normal Monsters

---|---|
C | 500 waru |
B | 5,000 waru |

Combine[edit | edit source]
Visit other farms to combine your monster (minimum monster level 3) with those in other farms (minimum monster level 1) by consuming warus based on the higher rank among the 2 monsters. Each monster in other farms can be used by you once daily, and a particular monster can be used by everyone 15 times daily. You can use 2 gems to bypass the limit 1 time across all monsters in the farm, and it only applies to you. You will get a new monster among the possible results (chance stated are estimated):
- 60% chance (inherits your own monster): Same type, 1 rank below or same rank or 1 rank higher (low chance of a higher rank)
- 20% chance (inherits the other farm's monster): The type that matches the other farm's monster type, half the rank compared to your monster. If the type of the other farm's monster is the same as your own monster, the rank will be increased to be within 1 rank of your own monster's rank.
- 20% chance (does not inherit): C rank monster of a foreign type (neither of the types of the 2 monsters involved)
The chance of a higher rank increases with your monster level used.
If it is a special formula, either the stated result is given, or a non-special monster is given based on the monster you used. If your own monster is of SS rank and non-special, it has a high chance of returning an SS rank if the result inherits your own monster. Results shown assumes that the formula has failed:
- In the case where your own monster is non-special while the other farm's monster is of "Special" category, the inheritance of the other farm's monster still applies to determine the rank, but the type will be randomised and be non-special if the inheritance of the other farm's monster is used. Inheritance of your own monster or non-inheritance results remain the same.
- In the case where your own monster is of "Special" category while the other farm's monster is non-special, the inheritance of your own monster still applies to determine the rank, but the type will be randomised and be non-special if the inheritance of your own monster is used. Inheritance of the other farm's monster or non-inheritance results remain the same.
- In the case where both monsters are of "Special" category, the inheritance type determines the rank, then the monster type will be randomised.
SS rank monsters and special type monsters cannot be used unless it is part of a special formula, and can only be used to combine with the formula. Expired monsters and those from incubators cannot be used for any combinations, even if it is part of a special formula.
The other farm will also receive a small amount of waru based on his/her monster's rank that you are combining with, it is given when the owner enters the farm.
The cost of combination is as follows
Higher rank among 2 monsters | Waru cost |
---|---|
C | 60 |
B | 150 |
B+ | 500 |
A | 1,000 |
A+ | 3,000 |
S | 5,000 |

Play[edit | edit source]
Play with monsters in other farms to gain a small amount of waru (1~8) based on monster rank, and provide a small amount of monster EXP to that monster. You can play with each monster once daily, and 20 times daily from everyone.

Monster Bonuses[edit | edit source]
Depending on the monster type, you will gain stats that applies to the entire account in all worlds. Stats of the same type for regular monsters (same monster for special monsters) will not be stacked. Where duplicates of the same regular type of monsters exist, the higher effect will be used.

Special Monster Bonuses[edit | edit source]
Special Monsters can be obtained from either boxes inside the special shop (appears randomly based on server time), or special combinations. Some monster boxes can also be found in normal shops ("Very Good Box" costs 8 gems and "Luminous Box" costs 600,000 waru before discounts). Special type monsters can stack with everything else so long as they are different monsters. (A monster is different so long as its actual name is different, even if it is just another variant of the same monster, example: Beryl and Reinforced Beryl will be considered as different)
Monster box types as follows
- Plain Box (Lackluster): C to A rank monsters
- Better Box (Pristine): A+ rank monsters
- Best Box (Pristine): S rank monsters
- Very Good Box (Ultrafine): A to SS rank monsters, and Pink Bean
- Luminous Box: Petite Luminous (Light)
You can only hold onto 1 of each box at a time. Having the same box as a quest reward or shop sale would prevent you from completing the quest or buying the box from the shop.
The Very Good Box's probability is published on the Korean MapleStory website (https://maplestory.nexon.com/Guide/CashShop/Probability/VeryGoodBox) Basically, the rate of obtaining the monsters are as follows
Monster | Grade | Probability in fraction | Probability in percentage | 1 in |
---|---|---|---|---|
Dodo | A | 16/129 | 12.4031% | 8.0625 |
King Clang | A | 16/129 | 12.4031% | 8.0625 |
Snow Witch | A | 16/129 | 12.4031% | 8.0625 |

Viking Legion | S | 6/129 | 4.6511% | 21.5 |
Pink Bean | SS | 3/129 | 2.3255% | 43 |
Special combination success rate depends on the grade of the expected final result. A particular monster only has a unique grade.
Resulting Special Monster Grade | Success Rate |
---|---|
B | 25% |
A | 20% |
A+ | 12% |
S | 7% |
SS | 3% |

Beauty Level[edit | edit source]
Houses, roads and decorations will make your farm more aesthetically pleasing (even though it is'nt sometimes). Decorations increases beauty points by up to a large amount, roads connected to the main house would improve the beauty points from the decoratives, and houses add beauty points by up to a small amount.
Beauty points will correspond to beauty levels and will provide bonuses.
- Waru shop discount: +1% every 8 beauty levels rounded up
- House waru maximum storage: +2 every beauty level (not %)
- Special shop appearance chance increase: +1% every beauty level
- Additional option chance when combining (this affects both you and visitors): +1% every 2 beauty levels rounded up
If your beauty points decreased below the required, your beauty level goes down too.

As such, at maximum beauty level, the farm gains
- Waru shop discount +8%
- House waru maximum storage +128
- Special shop appearance chance +64%
- Additional option chance when combining (this affects both you and visitors) +32%
Road Network Bonus[edit | edit source]
When roads are connected to the main house at the top left (top due to isometric view), it improves the efficiency of adjacent decoratives and houses.
For houses, 1 square of adjacent road increases waru generated every 10 minutes by (5 + 2% of base waru rate), rounded down after multiplying by the number of adjacent roads, up to 100% of base waru rate. The maximum possible adjacent roads are:
- 2x2 houses: 12 squares
- 3x3 houses: 16 squares
- 4x4 houses: 20 squares
For decoratives, 1 square of adjacent road increases beauty points by (200 + 2% of base beauty points), rounded down after multiplying by the number of adjacent roads, up to 100% of base beauty points. The maximum possible adjacent roads are:
- 1x1 decoratives: 8 squares
- 2x2 decoratives: 12 squares
Clicking individual objects would show the road network bonus applied in brackets. Mousing over the total waru shows the total network bonus gained (waru generation every 10 minutes), and mousing over the beauty points shows the total beauty points increased by roads.
Julian's House[edit | edit source]
Julian's House has various functions: Achievements (Julian), Visit an active farm (Mirror), Repeatable Quest refresh (Child/Aya), Shop (Jack) and Monster Book.
Achievements[edit | edit source]
There are various achievements available, and clearing them awards farm achievement points. The top 3 will be ranked and they can be viewed from the ranking function. (However, if the top 3 have obtained the absolute maximum then there is no way to dethrone them)
Mirror[edit | edit source]
The mirror sends you to an active farm that is not on your buddy list. It seem to follow a sequence that is reset from the beginning if you exit Monster Life.
Repeatable Quests[edit | edit source]
Every 3 hours, repeatable quests can be refreshed by talking to the Child/Aya. If you have not completed all repeatable quests, they will be replaced if you choose to refresh.
- Rewards
- Each completed repeatable quest awards 100 waru and 50 farm EXP (except the ones involving Erdas type monsters, which gives 100 farm EXP instead of 50 farm EXP).
- 10 completed repeatable quests will award you
515 Gems.
Shop[edit | edit source]
The shop sells houses, decoratives, backgrounds, monster boxes and monster slots for waru or gems. Items bought with waru can be sold back by right clicking them, for 10% of the original price. Items bought with gems cannot be sold back, and they cannot be converted to warus.
Occasionally, a special shop may appear (at the left side of the screen at your farm, the shop icon will appear), and a Special Shop tab will appear. It sells 6 items that will either cost lots of waru instead of gems (including 1 gem for 100,000 waru), items that are not found in the normal shop (cost lots of waru), or a discounted version of a normal shop item sold for waru. Special shop quantity is limited to 1 per item, and is subjected to discount just like normal waru shop items.
Special shop appearance rate can be increased with a higher beauty level.
Monster Book[edit | edit source]
You can view existing active monsters in your farm, as well as the entire catalog of monsters in Monster Life. Lighted up monsters in the catalog are monsters that you have already obtained before. Feel free to complete the collection if you can and want to (there are achievements for it too).
Yesterday's News[edit | edit source]
When you enter the farm (except 12am to 12.30am server time) it will show you the previous day's statistics for visitor count, play count from visitors and combination count from visitors. There is a daily gift button at the top right, clickable once daily, to get a daily gift box. It contain 1 of the below at random (in increasing rarity level):
- 2,000 waru ticket
- 5,000 waru ticket
- 10,000 waru ticket
- 1 gem ticket
Earning Currencies[edit | edit source]
Waru can be earned by
- Harvesting waru gains from deployed houses. Houses can be bought from the shop for warus or gems (shops that cost gems or lots of waru in special shop have much higher efficiency in general)
- Tip: A quick way is to hold down the "Enter" button and click all the houses. You can also pay 1,000 waru for auto harvest found at the top left.
- Taking care of monsters
- Release monsters level 4 and above
- Released monster in Maple World got captured and invitation dropped is used to direct the player to your farm
- Playing with monsters in other farms
- Daily gift
- Visitors combine with your monsters
Gems can be earned by
- Repeatable quests (10 quests completed =
515 gems) - Cash Shop (7 gems)
- Event Shop (usually 7 gems)
- Daily farm gift (low chance)
Guestbook[edit | edit source]
The red house in every farm serves as a guestbook, and visitors or the owner can write a message on it (there are achievements for writing in other farms many times). It logs all activities in the farm, though the log is very limited. Activities logged are: Play, Combine, Added Friend. As such, since the log is limited, you can leave a message to hint the farm owner that you appeared (and hopefully the owner visits your farm back), or just general chat.
NPC Farm[edit | edit source]
It can be accessed from your buddy list, featured farm icon (1st icon from left at the bottom). Everyday, the NPC Farm shown will be different, and each NPC has a set of monsters containing different graded monsters (however, it definitely has no special monsters). There are additional limitations for NPC Farms compared to normal farms.
- Play count is allowed up to 4 different monsters daily (1 play per monster limit still applies, however, the 20 plays per monster across the entire game limit is removed)
- Combination count is allowed up to 4 different monsters daily (1 combination per monster limit still applies)
