MapleStory/Aran/Builds

From StrategyWiki, the video game walkthrough and strategy guide wiki

AP Distribution

Unlike other characters, Aran is a straightforward job, having Aran at 1st job, 2nd job, 3rd job, etc. Therefore there are no crossways.

Regular

Aran are very similar to warriors. You should put 3 Strength and 2 Dexterity, since the Aran quests are required to kill monsters that are similar to your level, or higher. Unlike warriors, though, dexterity helps Aran get stronger, like strength.

Aran don't need any Int. or Luk. stats. IF this is done well, there should be little problem killing monsters.

Dexless

Dexless Arans are a real challenge, and requires lots of money. A dexless Aran means to put all their APs into Strength, and never, or put very little DEX.

Since Aran cannot possibly attack strong monsters without DEX (becoming a problem when making a high combo), instead of not putting DEX, DEX scrolls will be needed. Lots of them. Possibly for all your equipment, and max them out if possible. Now this requires a lot of luck, since scrolls can fail, and you can only do this 5 or 7 times. And there's a difference between a 100% dex scroll working at all times and a 10% dex scroll working at all times, since a 10% scroll will have more benefits if it works.

If this is done successfully, a Dexless Aran will make more damage compared to the regular ones.

First Job Skill Build

Unlike other jobs, Aran have very little skills to choose, and since there are no 'weapon mastery' skill, Aran needs lots of MP pots.

This is the main Aran SP build.

  • Lv: 10~17:Double Swing (MAX)
  • Lv: 17~20: Combo Ability: (MAX or 11 if you want to max Combat Step)
  • LV 20~22: Combat Step: (11 or MAX if you want to put 11 in Combo Ability)
  • Lv 23~30: Polearm Booster: (MAX)

Combo ability VS Combat Step

Combat Step is like Dash in Pirates, but it doesn't help much and it's only useful when you use it on the edge of a cliff, which the characher will jump in great distances. Adding SP into it doesn't change much.

On the other hand, Combo ability will only work if you make lots of combos, which are hard to do in first job. The stat upping thing while doing combos doesn't help much too.

It's up to you to decide which to max.

Places to train

Regular

Regular Arans are pretty easy to train, but it is recommended to know Maplestory quite a bit before you start making a proper one.

  • 1~10: After you come back to life in Rien, there will be quite a few Aran quests. Complete them and you should go to lv 10 in no time.
  • 10~13/14: After you make the first job advancement, like the Cygnus knights, you will be given a place to train in Rien. Training Slimes, Training Orange Mushrooms, Training Pigs will make nice experience.
  • 13~20: You should go to Victoria island, and a few quests will be waiting for you. Complete them to level up quick. Or, you could do the Henesys Party Quest, but with the meelee attacks, it would be pretty hard attacking those flying monsters. It still gives you good experience at the start though. Once you go at about Level 15, a fairy at Ellinia will request you in killing Green mushrooms and Sickly Green Mushrooms. They will make great experience and they might drop goodies such as pan lid, which is popular with theives and can be sold at a high price. If you are ready to burn pots and spam them, you might go to Ant Tunnel.
  • 21~25: KPQ is available now. But don't do it yet, because you lack dexterity, which is a pain when killing ligators, King slimes, etc. So instead, do lots of quests, and a new character in Perion will request to kill
